- Date change due to coincidence
If two exams for the same degree program are scheduled for the same day and time, or if you have more than two exams on the same day, you may request an alternative date from the instructors involved.
In the event of a disagreement regarding the change of the exam date, the following rules will apply:
Criteria for resolving exam conflicts
1. Conflict between exams for two courses on the same day and time
- If the conflict occurs between two Basic Education (FB) courses or two Mandatory (O) courses from different academic years, the course from the later academic year will be rescheduled. If both courses are in the same academic year but different semesters, the one in the second semester will be rescheduled. If both are in the same semester and academic year, the one with fewer ECTS credits will be rescheduled. In the event of a further conflict, the courses will be ranked alphabetically by course name, and the first one listed will be rescheduled.
- In the event of a conflict between an FB course and a Mandatory course in the same year, the Mandatory will be rescheduled. If, on the other hand, they are from different years, the course from the later academic year will be rescheduled, regardless of the course’s status.
- In the event of a conflict between FB and/or Mandatory (O) courses and an Elective (P) course, the Elective will be rescheduled.
- In the event of a conflict with a Complementary Education ("Formación Complemenraria") course in a bachelor’s degree curriculum offered by another UC3M school, the Complementary Education course will be rescheduled..
- If the conflict occurs between two elective courses from different semesters, the one corresponding to the second semester will be rescheduled. If both belong to the same semester, the one with the fewest ECTS credits will be rescheduled. In the event of a further conflict, the courses will be listed in alphabetical order by course name, and the first one listed will be rescheduled.
2. Exam conflicts involving more than two courses on the same day:
You may request a change of exam date when there is a conflict involving more than two courses on the same day, so that you take a maximum of two exams.
- If two or more courses overlap in schedule, the rules established in point 1 will apply.
- In the case of a conflict involving more than two exams on the same day, as in point 1, a FB course takes precedence over a required course, and a required course takes precedence over an elective.
- If more than two exams are scheduled for the same day, the following rule will apply, as in point 1: if a Complementary Education course in a bachelor’s degree program at another UC3M school overlaps, the Complementary Education course will be rescheduled.
- If the overlap occurs between two or more courses of the same type, those from the second semester must be rescheduled. In the event of an overlap among these, the courses with the fewest credits will be rescheduled, and if the credits are equal, the course with the later exam time on that day will be rescheduled.
Request Procedure
In order for the professor to set another date for the exam, you must submit a request as soon as you become aware of the conflict and, in any case, always before the start of the penultimate week of the regular class period, or at least 3 business days before the exam date in the case of the make-up exam period.
The professor must post the new date on Aula Global, or via email, within the following week.
If this alternative exam date conflicts with another exam, you may take the exam on either of the two established dates (the official date or the alternative exam date) by informing your professor of your choice, who may then set a third date.
To verify the exam conflict on the same day, you must submit a certificate confirming that you took the exam for the overlapping course.
