Fully Reconfigurable Video Coding

The main goal of this project is to go beyond the video coding standards with the design of a framework for fully reconfigurable video decoding, that is, video decoders with reconfigurable capabilities so that some header fields in the video bit stream could change the decoder configuration in a way that it can decode the video payload. Currently our work is focused on two different tasks. Firstly, integrating adaptive non standard-complaint algorithms to the encoder engine so that we can demonstrate the potential benefits of a reconfigurable approach. Secondly, defining a decoder description syntax for communicating new decoder functions.
