Student Insurance

In accordance with current legislation, the Spanish administration establishes a Student Insurance fee of 1,12 € for students of higher education institutions. This fee is applicable to all Spanish and foreign students (with legal residence in Spain) under 28 years of age. The following groups are exempt:

  • Students over 28 years of age upon the start date of the academic year for which they are enrolled.
  • Students who already paid the insurance cover at another institution, in which case, proof of payment must be submitted.
  • Students in a research training program who are covered under the general Social Security scheme, as provided in Real Decreto 63/2006 of January 27 (published in BOE nº 29, February 3, 2006).

 

Coverage

 

The Student Insurance provides the following coverage: accident on university premises, general surgery, obstetrics, neuropsychiatry, pulmonary and bone tuberculosis, physiotherapy, radiotherapy, cobalt therapy, and unexpected family tragedy (death of head of the household or family bankruptcy).

To request any of these coverages, submit an application to the Provincial Directorate of the National Institute of Social Security (INNS) assigned to your home address (you may provide the application at any of the Social Security Information and Support Centers), attaching the following documents:

  • National Identity Card (Spanish citizens) or NIE (foreign residents)
  • Proof of enrollment.
  • Any documents relevant to the coverage requested.
