What is the Study Abroad Program?
The Study Abroad Program (SAP) is an academic program that strives for excellence and that is intended to provide international students with the opportunity to pursue their course of study in English. The program offers students the choice of registering for regular Carlos III “grado” courses taught in English, as well as courses designed specifically for SAP. At the same time, SAP promotes the study of Spanish with language courses pitched for beginners.
Students may also participate in all cultural activities (e.g., theater, music, volunteering) and sports on campus, activities that enable integration into Spanish university life, making for a more authentic and rich academic experience.
Students enrolled in SAP come from some of the best American universities.
Class attendance normative
The protocol is as follows:
1) Excused absences: Will be considered excused absences exclusively those due to the following reasons:
- Illness or medical visit. Requires official medical certificate or equivalent through the approval of the Coordinator.
- Exams. Absence in exams. Requires only official documentary proof.
- Unavoidable administrative procedures (obtaining or renewing official documents, citations in Public Administrations, etc.) Requires official proof of the appointment.
- Scheduled study trips. Requires prior communication from the Program Coordinator to the CEH / SAP Secretary.
The Program Coordinators must send the proof of these absences to Leonor Prado prado@pa.uc3m.es who will communicate the justification of the absence to the professors of the subjects involved. This will be the only valid communication with professors to be able to consider an absence as excused. The communications that, where appropriate, can be made by the students themselves or their programs with the professors will not be valid in this regard.
2) Absences without justification: Absences without justification are all those not included in the previous section.
- The first unexcused absence is not counted.
- Students will have their final grade for the course reduced by 0.3 points if they have a second unexcused absence.
- If a third unexcused absence takes place, the reduction in the final grade will be 0.5 points.
- The fourth unexcused absence of a student in a subject will result in the final grade of failed in it, although the student may continue to attend class if he/she wishes to do so.
Those professors who detect cases of students with three unexcused absences must report it to the CEH / SAP Coordinator, Leonor Prado lprado@pa.uc3m.es who, in turn, will inform the Coordinator of the corresponding program.
