New call for UC3M-Santander Chairs of Excellence for academic year 2017/18

Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) and Banco Santander, through  Santander Universidades, have launched the 10th Call for Chairs of Excellence, geared toward international talent recruitment.

UC3M and Banco Santander signed the first agreement to create the “Universidad Carlos III de Madrid - Banco Santander” Chairs of Excellence Program in 2007.  Since then, and following successive renewals and amplifications, 164 Chairs of Excellence have been awarded, distributed throughout nine yearly Calls.  

These fellowships are aimed at promoting research excellence and fostering the incorporation of world-class researchers and faculty into UC3M research groups and departments in their corresponding areas of expertise, to develop joint projects and synergies.   

For academic year, 2017/18 seven annual chairs are announced, totaling 120,000 euros each.  All in all, five year-long fellowships are being offered with two reciprocal semester ones. The deadline for application, to be carried out electronically, is November 25, 2016.

Chair recipients include scholars from universities, scientific institutions and research entities of international renown such as: the Max Plank Institute, The London School of Economics, Boston University, the University of California, Cambridge University, the University of Chicago, the University of Minnesota, Paris Université, ,and Stanford University.  Accordingly, international links between the institutions have been strengthened, improving their scientific-technical capabilities and carrying out enduring collaboration while sharing teaching and research experiences.  

Banco Santander is the company which has invested most in supporting education throughout the world (Varkey/UNESCO Report – Fortune 500).  Through the   Santander Universidades area, it has 1,200 collaboration agreements with universities and research centers in 21 countries.
