Proyecto

El proyecto Soberanía y ley: entre la ética y la política es una investigación acerca del significado y la relación entre las esferas ética y política de la existencia social a partir del examen de un número de conceptos interrelacionados que incluye, entre otros, los de soberanía, ley, violencia, mal y fundamentos. Por medio de una metodología orientada históricamente y basada en los textos, el objetivo es mostrar cómo son posibles distintas concepciones de la relación ético-política, y cómo cada una se basa en una construcción semiótica particular que, lejos de ser universal y ahistórica, es culturalmente específica, creada a partir de diferentes relaciones de poder y elaborada para dar sentido a la realidad. Al estudiar la interacción compleja entre ética, política, cultura y semiótica, el proyecto identifica el papel crucial que las estructuras culturales y semióticas desempeñan en la creación de valores y marcos ético-políticos, contribuyendo de este modo a la comprensión de los modos en que las diferentes culturas no solo crean sus propias narrativas definitorias, sino también, a través de éstas, interactúan y se comprenden mutuamente. Gavin Rae ha sido Assistant Professor de filosofía en la American University in Cairo, donde disfrutó previamente de una beca post-doctoral Andrew Mellon. Está especializado en filosofía post-kantiana, con particular énfasis en la ontología, la filosofía socio-política y las teorías de la subjetividad. Ha publicado tres libros: The Problem of Political Foundations in Carl Schmitt and Emmanuel Levinas (Palgrave Macmillan: 2016); Ontology in Heidegger and Deleuze (Palgrave Macmillan: 2014) y Realizing Freedom: Hegel, Sartre, and the Alienation of Human Being (Palgrave Macmillan: 2011). Ha publicado también numerosos artículos en revistas internacionales de prestigio entre las que se encuentran International Journal of Philosophical Studies, Journal of the British Society for Phenomenology, Journal of International Political Theory, Human Studies, Political Theology, History of the Human Sciences, Critical Horizons, Epoché: A Journal for the History of Philosophy, y Sartre Studies International, y ha sido invitado a presentar su trabajo en conferencias internacionales en Europa, Norte América y África del Norte. Ha sido asimismo profesor visitante en la University of London (Royal Holloway) y en la Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
