Its highest ranking was obtained by Economics and Econometrics, which placed among the global top 50. Likewise significant is the improvement in the ranking of Mathematics (included for the first time among the first 250) and Business and Management Studies (which surged into the top 150 up from the best 200).  In addition, in the subjects of Accounting and Finances, Law, Statistics and Operational Research, UC3M is once again this year ranked among the top 150 universities worldwide, while Computer Science and Electric and Electronic Engineering hold notable positions.

Designed by the British consulting company, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), this global ranking analyzes and assesses 4,226 universities throughout the world. The 2016 edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject, published annually since 2011, analyzes 42 academic disciplines.

This study, based on measurable objective criteria, takes into account such factors as academic reputation, employer reputation, the citation count in research journals for their scholars or scientists, and the “h-index”, which measures the quantity (productivity) as well as the quality (impact) of published work.
