UC3M promotes the creation of three new spin-offs by its researchers

Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) has established and holds a stake in three new companies created by its research staff —Beldar Tekné, LightForge Tech, and Robokinetics— to develop innovations in the fields of bioengineering, electronic technology, and robotics.

UC3M participates in the share capital of its spin-offs to contribute to their business development. This minority and temporary stake is structured in accordance with the regulations for the creation of knowledge-based university companies.
Beldar Tekné, driven by researchers from the Department of Bioengineering at UC3M, aims to commercialize a brain PET scanner based on a novel system of gamma radiation detectors arranged in a quasi-spherical geometry. The innovations of this device allow for PET imaging with a significantly lower radiotracer dose per patient than that required by conventional equipment, while simultaneously increasing the resolution of the acquired image. This equipment is poised to improve the accuracy of diagnosis and monitoring of neuro-oncological and neurological diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and epilepsy.
LightForge Tech, born from scientific advances in the University's Department of Electronic Technology, develops a portable, lightweight, and versatile solar simulator designed to characterize all types of samples under controlled and customizable lighting conditions. Unlike traditional bulky equipment, this high-precision device enables in-situ testing in strategic sectors such as photovoltaics, space, and cosmetics, democratizing access to this technology through a compact and adaptable solution that weighs less than one kilogram.
Robokinetics, originating from the UC3M Department of Systems Engineering and Automation, develops collaborative robotic systems and virtual and augmented reality software platforms for medical rehabilitation. Specifically, it focuses on upper limb recovery for patients with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), employing advanced algorithms to create "virtual lanes" and enable a more accessible and efficient isokinetic therapy.
With these companies, there are now 15 spin-offs in which UC3M holds a stake and receives support from the program for the creation of and participation in spin-offs, located at the Center for Innovation in Entrepreneurship and Artificial Intelligence (C3N-IA) of the University's Science Park. The other companies in which it participates and which are currently developing their innovations are: AI Methods, Cyclomed Technologies, Evidence Based Behavior, Hiili, Inrobics Social Robotics, LeapWave Technologies, Persei Space, Power Smart Control, Seevia Technologies, and 60Nd. Additionally, UC3M previously held a stake in Sensia Solutions.
