UC3M offers more than 60 activities during Madrid Science and Innovation Week 2025

November 3-15, 2025

10/23/25

The Carlos III University of Madrid (UC3M) is participating once again in Madrid Science and Innovation Week, offering 61 activities (two more than last year) at its campuses in Leganés, Getafe, Colmenarejo, and Madrid-Puerta de Toledo, as well as at other collaborating venues in the Community of Madrid. This initiative, which will take place from November 3 to 15, aims to bring science, technology, and innovation closer to the public, encourage scientific vocations among young people, and promote gender equality from the earliest stages of education.

This edition includes numerous activities resulting from collaborations with various local institutions and entities. These include those developed in conjunction with the town councils of Arganda, Collado Villalba, Leganés, and Pedrezuela, as well as with important museums and institutions such as the National Archaeological Museum, the Museum of the History of Madrid, and the European Parliament. These alliances make it possible to broaden the scope of Science Week and bring research and innovation closer to different audiences and territories in the Community of Madrid. In addition, accessibility for groups with different disabilities is particularly important, with each activity specifying the visual, auditory, structural, or psychosocial accessibility measures available. In this regard, a special workshop is offered for young people with cognitive disabilities on installing digital certificates on smartphones.

The program includes courses and workshops, round tables, conferences, guided tours, escape rooms, and contests that address cutting-edge topics such as artificial intelligence, robotics, sustainability, biodiversity, sensory technology, applied science, audiovisual creation, and scientific dissemination. Of particular note is the Bienestar por suscripción (Well-being by subscription) theater, an event that combines an original play with scientific talks by UC3M researchers to address issues such as: misinformation on social media and mental health, advances in the creation of mini human organs, the invisible symptoms of Parkinson's disease, and how to use neuroscience for healthier aging.

Participants will be able to take part in experiments with plasma, autonomous vehicles, wearable and multisensory technology, and discover the latest scientific developments, such as bio-inspired sensors and pocket organs. One of the key themes this year is sound, which will be the focus of activities designed to enable visitors to “see” sound, sonify their bodies, and hear what noise from outer space sounds like. The activities include various workshops focusing on topics such as: building airplanes and explaining how the science of thrust is responsible for making their engines work; courses on the usefulness of Europe; how to challenge barriers in STEM through art and applied artificial intelligence, among others.

With the aim of promoting critical thinking and dialogue between experts, teachers, students, and the general public, round tables will be held on topics of social relevance, such as dogmatism, sustainability, and the revolution in metal printing, as well as conferences on the influence of social media, hoaxes, and future medicine and surgery projects.

In addition, guided tours will be organized on the science of law and everyday life at the National Archaeological Museum and the classical reception in the collections of the Madrid History Museum, as well as the UC3M Science Park and CESyA.

Activities for Secondary Schools

Other activities are specifically aimed at secondary schools, high schools, and vocational training centers, which can be booked through this website. These include Flash Talks, which offer ten-minute journeys into the worlds of energy, art, numbers, and communication. In addition, there will be workshops on building and monitoring nest boxes and improving biodiversity, manufacturing recycled asphalt, experiences with micro-robotics; exploration of the spatial sound of the music of the future, workshops on audiovisual creation and artificial intelligence to generate images and sounds, workshops on critical analysis of sexist news, detection of disinformation and cybercrime, introduction to linguistic correction using intelligent assistants, 3D creation with Blender, and recognition of women writers in the history of science. There will also be a conference on how social media influences our daily lives.

UC3M is participating in this scientific outreach event organized by the Community of Madrid through the madri+d Knowledge Foundation. The aim of the event, coordinated by the Office of Information and Dissemination of Science and Innovation (OIDCI) of the Vice-Rectorate for Communication, Culture and Transparency of the University, is to actively involve society in the processes of research and development in science, technology, and innovation.
