6/1/22

Twelve students from the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) have received one of the 100 scholarships awarded by the ‘La Caixa’ Foundation for postgraduate studies at universities or higher research centres in the European Higher Education Area (EES in its Spanish acronym), North America and Asia-Pacific. UC3M is the leading university in terms of the number of scholarships awarded.

1,046 students applied for this year’s ‘La Caixa’ scholarships, of which 100 received scholarships. This year includes students from 31 Spanish universities and four students from four Portuguese universities. Barcelona and Madrid have the greatest number of scholarship holders, 36 and 30 respectively.

The selection process has a first evaluation phase through a peer review system. Then, those who receive the best grades must undergo a personal interview. The process involves university teaching staff with international experience in this type of evaluation.

These scholarships for master’s, doctoral or predoctoral research studies have a minimum duration of nine months and can be extended for a second academic year, up to a maximum of 24 months. The grant programme covers the full cost of tuition fees and a monthly stipend in the host country’s currency, as well as travel expenses and an orientation course.

People awarded scholarships by ‘La Caixa’ are part of the ‘La Caixa’ Scholarship Holders Association. This group has become an academic and professional reference, both in Spain and abroad.
