The UC3M will allocate nearly one million Euros to assist students who face financial difficulties

The Community of Madrid’s “Seguimos” Programme

During the 2020-21 academic year, the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) will allocate 914,183 Euros for enrolment aid and social scholarships within the “Seguimos” (“Keep going”) Programme, a strategic plan signed by the Community of Madrid aimed at university students in adverse socio-economic situations.

In particular, this new programme means that 685,637 Euros can be used to cover public enrolment fees for undergraduate and post-graduate degrees at the UC3M during the 2020-21 academic year. There is also 228,546 Euros of financial aid available for students in special situations, aid for technological support (buying and loaning computers and network connections) as well as financial aid for students with disabilities.

This collaboration between the regional administration and the university is essential in order to prevent vulnerable groups from being excluded from their academic education, not starting their studies, or continuing their higher education for economic reasons. “Signing this agreement means that the university education and future of UC3M students will not be affected by their economic situation resulting from the crisis caused by the COVID-19 epidemic. The University understands their commitment to the most vulnerable students as it is an institution that prioritises social cohesion,” says Maria Luisa González-Cuéllar, the UC3M’s Vice President for Institutional Relations and Sustainable Development.

Since the start of the pandemic during the previous academic year, the UC3M has implemented several initiatives aimed at ensuring that students do not lose academic or employment opportunities due to socioeconomic difficulties. In this regard, connectivity grants were awarded between March and August
and now calls have been made to ensure that every student has access to technological resources that they can use to keep up with online classes.

The “Seguimos” Programme is one of the lines of action included in the Strategic Grants Plan of the Community of Madrid’s Science, Universities and Innovation Council for 2020 and 2021.
