During his visit, the minister was able to find out about research that is being carried out in different facilities of the Park, such as the Impact Laboratory Aerostructures, where mechanical tests are being developed at different temperatures and speeds in order to provide innovative solutions for the industry, in collaboration with Airbus. He also visited various start-ups from the UC3M node – ESA BIC Madrid Region, such as Canard Drones and Drone Hopper, which are developing drones which could be used to optimise airport traffic, fight fires or boost precision agriculture.

Furthermore, Pedro Duque visited the facilities of various companies supported by the Park, such as Sensia Solutions, a spin-off of the UC3M Remote Sensing Laboratory and Imaging Sensors in the Infrared which uses infrared technology to look for new industrial thermography systems, or 6DLab, a business project based on the application of innovative technological solutions in virtual, augmented and mixed reality, for use in surgical environments, for example.

The minister also had the opportunity to see the Audiovisual Accessibility Laboratory from the Technology Centre for Disability and Dependency of the Science Park, which CESyA is part of, a UC3M project with the Royal Patronage on Disability from the Ministry for Health, Social Services and Equality. Lastly, during the visit he was also able to test the model for the electric, autonomous, multimedia bus which has been developed as part of Cities Timanfaya, a sustainable mobility project lead by the UC3M along with the Spanish Road Association (in the Spanish acronym: AEC) and the consulting company 2rk.

In the framework of this event, the minister got together with the UC3M president, Juan Romo, and the Mayor of Leganés, Santiago Llorente. “We are in a technological park that is a model in Spain, in a university which just celebrated 30 years and has a cutting-edge educational and research project and which, here above all, invests in technological transfer”, claims Pedro Duque.
