UC3M among the best universities in the world in 15 fields

Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) is ranked among the top universities worldwide in 15 academic fields (4 more than last year), according to the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2018 from Shanghai’s ranking.
In Business Administration and in Finance UC3M holds the highest position in Spain and is ranked among the top 150 in the world. In other areas it holds second place nationally: In Library and Information Sciences (51-75 worldwide) and Telecommunication Technologies Engineering (which is in the top 100 in the world). And in another three areas it comes third in Spain: Statistics and Mechanical Engineering (both in the top 200 in the world) and Political Science (in the top 300 in the world).
UC3M holds fourth place nationally in Economics (in the top 100 in the world) and in Business Administration (in the top 300 worldwide). In another two fields it holds fifth place in Spain: Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Power Engineering, and Electronics (both of which are in the top 300 in the world). The University also stands out in other academic fields, such as Instruments Science and Technology (201-300), Mathematics (301-400), Education (401-500) and Energy Science and Engineering (401-500).
This classification of the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), published by the independent consultancy Shanghai Ranking Consultancy since 2009, analyses which are the best universities in the world in 54 academic fields (2 more than last year) distributed over five large subject areas: natural sciences, social sciences, life sciences, engineering and medicine.
The ranking uses five criteria in order to classify universities: the number of scientific articles published; the impact of those according to a standardized citation index; the percentage of publications with international collaboration; the amount of papers selected for high-impact journals and prestigious conferences and the number of researchers in the institution who have received a prestigious award in their fields, such as the Nobel or a Fields medal.
