“Spanish Universities by Numbers” Report 2015/2016

10/18/17

Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) leads Spanish universities in attracting students with the best grades and in percentage of students with international mobility, according to La Universidad Española en Cifras 2015/2016 (Spanish Universities by Numbers), a report published by the CRUE (Conference of Spanish University Rectors) with the collaboration of Santander Universidades.

A total of 87.88% of incoming students enrolled at the UC3M in 2015/2016 in bachelor’s degree courses had university entrance exam grades higher than 7.5. This percentage puts the UC3M in first place among the 60 public and private Spanish universities that participated in the report.

Leader in Erasmus+ Students and Bachelor’s Degrees in English

UC3M is also in first place in Spain among public on-site universities in percentage of bachelor’s degree students with incoming and outgoing international mobility through the Erasmus+ Program during academic year 2015-16. At present, UC3M offers 1,622 places to bachelor’s degree and graduate students who wish to study for one or more terms at any of the 400 European universities it has agreements with. Because it is an exchange program, UC3M can receive a similar number of students every year from member universities. The students can spend one or more terms studying in Spanish or English.

In addition, UC3M offers 51.22% of its degree courses in a foreign language or a bilingual format, followed by the Universidad de Oviedo, with 37.74%, and the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, with 28%.

Research Funding

UC3M is third among public on-site Spanish universities in research funding received by teaching and research personnel, with 31,339.83 euros euros, behind the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (36,938.71 euros) and the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia (36,083.69 euros). The fundraising has increased relative to 2010, when it was 19,642.52 euros, despite the reduction in spending by public administrations and companies during the economic crisis.

The presence of Spanish university researchers in international funding forums shows a clearly positive trend, according to the report. At the institutional level, UC3M is among the public universities that have a high percentage of international funding as part of their overall research funding, with 41.64% in 2015.

The Spanish Universities by Numbers 2015/2016 report analyzes the progress of the Spanish university system, focusing on variables related to the achievement of public or private universities’ missions.
