U-Ranking 2017

The U-Ranking 2017 presents the fifth edition of the Indicadores Sintéticos del Sistema Universitario Español (Spanish University System Synthetic Indicators-ISSUE) in three large areas: teaching, research, and innovation and technological development. This document provides a ranking of institutions for each area and for all university activities in performance, correcting for the effect of size so as to make them comparable.

UC3M holds third place in Spain in the general ranking in performance, together with the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia and the Universidad Rovira y Virgili. Ranked first is Universidad Pompeu Fabra, followed by Politécnica de Cataluña. In all, data from 61 universities (48 public and 13 private) is analyzed, representing 93 percent of the Spanish University System.

This ranking takes into account 25 indicators relating to quality, internationalization, output, and resources available.  In teaching, it considers issues such as faculty per student ratio, student evaluation and success rate, cut-off mark, and the percentage of international students, for example.   In research, assessed are competitive research, doctoral theses read, scientific citation quality and international research funds obtained, among other data. In innovation and technological development, income for licenses and consultancy contracts, number of patents and funding for international contracts are assessed, for example.
