UC3M is shareholding in the spin-off, Power Smart Control

9/29/16

Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) has joined the shareholders of the spin-off, Power Smart Control, a company derived from the activities of the research group at UC3M’s GSEP (Sistemas Electrónicos de Potencia / Power Electronics Systems). This initiative supports the path of trust in, and commitment to, innovation at the institution.

The shareholder, Smart Power Control team, S.L., which was formed last year, mostly comprises university researchers. With the signing of this new agreement in September 2016, UC3M has taken on a minority role as part of the governing body and as a provider of share capital in this technology based company.

With the signing of this latest agreement, UC3M now participates in three spin-off companies supported by the Business Incubator at the UC3M Science Park, after becoming a shareholder in both Sensia Solutions, S.L. and Laboratorio Hipermedia S.L in March 2015

The promoters of Power Smart Control have more than twenty years’ experience in the field of power electronic systems and have developed software design applications in a variety of sectors including, among others, the aerospace industry, energy, health, communication technologies and transport.

The first version of this programme, developed by members of the academic staff at UC3M, was marketed through agreements with distributors; through these agreements, more than five hundred licenses were sold to research centres, companies and universities in more than thirty countries.

"Given the good level of market acceptance, and in order to carry out a more ambitious project, the idea of setting up a company that could exploit the research results generated at UC3M was proposed," according to two of the driving forces behind the project, Andrés Barrado  and Antonio Lazaro, from the department of Electronic Technology at UC3M.
