    The Master of Space Engineering provides the comprehensive and specialized training required by the space industry. This is a booming sector with growth in Europe and Spain of almost 10% per year in the last decade. The labor market of this industry is dynamic, with a high demand for master-level graduates in engineering, in particular, from the areas of aerospace and telecommunications.

    The Master's program in Space Engineering responds to the international, integral, and multidisciplinary nature of the space projects and missions according to three vectors. First, the teaching of the master's degree is entirely in English. Second, it provides a complete training in design and systems engineering with a teaching methodology aimed at the development of space projects. Third, the key topics in space technologies and applications are covered theoretically and practically. These includes both the space vehicle, understood as the platform on which different subsystems are integrated, and its orbital and attitude dynamics, as well as the disciplines related to control, communications, data transmission, as well as the most relevant technological applications.

    The UC3M has the appropriate means to provide the necessary multidisciplinary training, through the Departments involved in the fields of Aerospace, Telecommunications, Computer Science, Automation, etc. Finally, it has been established a close collaboration with the industrial sector for both lecturing and internships.

      REQUIREMENTS

      The entry profiles for this Master are:

      • Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace Engineering branch

      Entry profiles also suitable for this master after following six credits of Formative Complements are:

      • Bachelor's Degree in Telecommunications Engineering
      • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering branch
      • Bachelor's Degree in Physics Engineering branch or Applied Physics branches

      However, the MISE intends to have a multidisciplinary and integrating nature miming the reality of the space industry, which implies accepting different technological background profiles. For this reason, the Committee that prepares the program may consider access to engineering graduates from other branches or bachelor in physical or mathematical sciences. For these profiles, the Master Admissions Committee will establish the formative complements that it considers necessary based on the previous training of each applicant.
       

      FORMATIVE COMPLEMENTS

      During the month of July through distance learning, and during the two weeks prior to the beginning of the course on-campus, in the morning, students coming from the above mentioned Bachelor's Degrees must take the previous Formative Complements in Introduction to Space Vehicles and Dynamics indicated in the Program (6 ECTS).

      ADMISSION CRITERIA

      The suitability and ordering of the candidates will be done according to:

      Academic record of the degree that motivates access: it will be taken into account the average grade, the number of years required to obtain the degree, and the adaptation of the program of studies followed to the master's program.

      Other merits include other academic studies, professional and research experience, scholarships and awards received, letter of motivation, letters of recommendation, other languages, and so on.

      ADMISSION PROFILE

      Students with a good background in engineering sciences, mainly in applied mathematics, mechanics, electromagnetism, electronics, materials and thermodynamics.

      Also, given the teaching methodology, they should have an aptitude for teamwork, communication skills and the ability to work hard. An interest in space engineering is also required, as well as creativity, imagination, innovation and motivation for continuous learning.

      Language requirements

      Check the general language requirements required to study a Master’s at UC3M, depending on whether it is in Spanish, English or bilingual.

      students with foreign university degrees

      Once admitted to the Master’s, students with university degrees issued by a higher education institution belonging to an educational system outside the EHEA, must provide, for enrolment, the diploma, legalized by diplomatic procedures or by means of The Hague Apostille. They must also submit the transcript of records, with the grade point average, duly legalized.

      If needed, documents must be accompanied by an official sworn translation into Spanish.

      • Non EU students: €5,044.2 (€84.07/ECTS credit)

      NOTE: the indicated public prices do not include in any case, neither the ECTS corresponding to the Formative Complements that the student must take (only master's degrees with previous Formative Complements), nor the cost of issuing the master’s degree certificate.

      Additional information

      • You may enrol on the master’s degree after completing the admission process and receiving formal confirmation of your acceptance.
      • When performing the enrolment you can choose between Full-time enrolment or Part-time enrolment.
      • The email address provided upon enrolment will be used for formal communications; students are therefore kindly requested to check their mail regularly.
      • Pursuant to the regulations of the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, a student failing to pay any part of the fees will not be admitted and the enrolment process will be terminated. In cases of cancellation of enrolment due to non-payment, the University may demand the payment of the pending amounts for enrolment in previous academic courses as a prior condition of enrolment.
        No diploma or certificate will be issued if a student has any outstanding payments.

    Spacecraft Pre-Design Competition

    Spacecraft Pre-Design is a synthesis course that students must follow in the last bimester of the first year.

    The main goal of the course is integrating students’ knowledge and skills acquired and developed in the previous terms to the preliminary design of a space mission. Students’ teams are given high-level mission requirements from a client and they must come out with the mission requirements, system engineering and project management of the first stage of the project.

    The designs proposed by the student teams are evaluated by a multi-disciplinary panel. The best designs of each year are listed here.

     

    3RD EDITION. SPRING 2022

    The 2022 MiSE Pre-Design mission is to design and demonstrate the feasibility of a 1U CubeSat to perform a technical/scientific mission. The BOIRA team addressed the climate change monitoring challenge by proposing a mission to measure the atmospheric moisture by means of a remote sensing passive instrument (a compact radiometer being developed at UC3M).

    1ST EDITION. SPRING 2020

    MISSION: TEPEU

    The TEPEU-1 space mission aims to fly a low-cost satellite to LEO for the purposes of technological demonstration, as well as Earth’s ionosphere and geomagnetic field measurements, paving the way for future scientific studies about the ionosphere and its relationship with space weather. The mission is promoted by several Mexican institutions (IPN, ICAT-UCAM, CG-UNAM).
