Due to the health crisis brought about by COVID-19, no award ceremony will be held this year.  However, a special webpage will be established with information on the projects and the awardees, who will receive an official certificate acknowledging having been granted these prizes.

In this twelfth edition of the Awards for Excellence, 342,000 euros is to be endowed among the 50 winners.  Awardees include 10 young PhD researchers with an international profile who will receive 15,000 euros for two years; and 22 students distinguished by their excellent academic record, who will receive 1,000 euros.  In addition, 20,000 euros will be awarded to a team of administrative and services staff that participated in a UC3M proposal for intra-entrepreneurship that contributes to excellence, transversality, innovation and quality in University administrative activities.  Lastly, a diploma and trophy of recognition, to be given at a future date, will go to ten UC3M alumni who excel due to their remarkable professional development or entrepreneurial activity, in two categories:  those who graduated between 2014 and 2016, and those who graduated more than five years ago.

The Awards for Excellence seek to promote research and acknowledge the endeavors and achievements of four University groups: alumni, current students, young PhD researchers, and administrative and services staff.   Furthermore, the awards provide an opportunity to spotlight young researchers with an international profile, the most outstanding students, administrative and services personnel who have undertaken innovative projects, and UC3M graduates with exemplary professional careers.

Banco Santander’s support for the Awards for Excellence through Santander Universidades is within the framework of the relationship maintained by the two institutions since 1999 for development of diverse academic projects. In fact, both entities have recently renewed their collaboration agreement so as to continue fostering projects and programs for scholarships, grants and awards to foment academic mobility, university entrepreneurship, as well as supporting UC3M research by attracting first-rate national and international researchers through initiatives such as the UC3M-Santander Chairs of Excellence and the CONEX-Plus program.

Banco Santander is firmly dedicated to progress and inclusive and sustainable growth with a clear commitment to higher education, distinguishing it from the other world financial entities. With more than 1,800 million euros earmarked for academic initiatives since 2002 through Santander Universidades and over 430,000  euros in university scholarships and grants  awarded since 2005, it was recognized as the company which invests most in education in the world (Varkey Report / UNESCO / Fortune 500), with 1,000 agreements with universities and institutions of higher learning in 22 countries.

The UC3M Social Council, among its many functions, foments societal engagement with university activity, particularly in its funding, and in fomenting links between the University and the cultural, professional, economic and social community.
