Elena Gordo Odériz

Elena Gordo, PhD, is Professor at the University Carlos III of Madrid (UC3M), responsible of the Powder Technology Group (GTP), and principal researcher of the programme MULTIMAT-CHALLENGE. She obtained the degree in Mining Engineering at the Technical University of Madrid (UPM) and the PhD in Materials Engineering at the National Center for Metallurgical Research in Madrid (CENIM, CSIC). She enjoyed a post-doc stay at the University of Notthingham, working closely with industry (1999), and two research stays at the University of Cambridge in 2000 and 2004.

Her research is in the area of powder technology, in particular the design and development of metallic and metal-ceramic materials, being titanium and cermets with alternative compositions the most active subjects currently. She is also involved in the surface modification of these materials for biomedical or high temperature applications, and in the study of corrosion and wear behaviour. A very fruitful and promising line in collaboration with the Institute of Ceramic and Glass (ICV, CSIC) is the use of colloidal techniques for the processing of very fine powders or even the in-situ synthesis of nanoparticles, widening the scope of conventional powder technologies to new and exciting applications.

She has been principal researcher of 15 R&D projects funded by public organisations and 10 funded by industry, is co-author of 100 articles in indexed journals (most JCR, ISI) and one patent, and she has supervised 9 PhDs, being 3 more under development.
