Cross-curricula Subjects

Fomración Transversal en la UC3M

In the University Carlos III, we believe that is a benefit to develop capacities, knowledge and tools as an added value to the Bachelor’s studies. That is how we can offer a 360° formation, with updated notions adapted to the labor market necessities, and linked to the social advances.

These skills integrate transversally in the following areas of all the Bachelor’s studies: Humanities courses, Soft Skills, Writing and Communication Skills, Information Skills, Spreadsheets and Bachelor Thesis. It is necessary for you to pass this subjects to graduate, to do so you will have one call per year.

Soft Skills

This course has a wide range of workshops from which the student can achieve different expertise due to the professional life and career so as; Initiative and Responsibility, Negotiation, Emotional Intelligence, etc. All of them are think to be hold with a practical focus.

Soft Skills

This course, with 3 ECTS, is taught in face-to-face modality.

Spreadsheets

This subject is intend to give the students the calculus tools needed to consolidate the basic technical abilities required on every professional field. During the course, the student will learn concepts the management and organization of information, the use of formulas, manipulation and data counting, as well as ordering, filtering, comparisons, etc.

The Spreadsheets are adapted to the level of detailing and development that requires each Bachelor. They can be Medium Level Spreadsheets or Advanced Level Spreadsheets. In the School of Engineering, the course has 1,5 ECTS, and in the Faculties, it has 3 ECTS.

It is taught with the following modalities:

  • Advanced knowledge of Spreadsheets: all classes are taught online (synchronous). The final test is face-to-face.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Spreadsheets: It is taught in blended mode (9 synchronous online sessions and 5 face-to-face sessions). The final test is face-to-face.

Humanities Courses

They provide the student with basic humanistic skills, and competences in areas so as History, Art, Literature, Performing Arts, Geography, Gender Studies, Philosophy, Religion, Digital Contents, Cinema, Politics and Society, etc.

It is possible to choose between a wide-open offer of courses. The credits that the student will acquire will be take into account to complete the Program. The way of completing the 6 credits needed for this area is by coursing two subjects of 3 credits each. The student can choose the subjects to course according to the offer for each Degree.

Search of Humanities Courses

Humanities courses are taught in three modalities:

  • Face-to-face: with all face-to-face sessions.
  • Online: All sessions are taught synchronously online (live). In cases where it exists, the final test is also online.
  • Blended: With 5 face-to-face sessions, 5 synchronous online sessions (live) and 4 asynchronous online sessions (recorded). In the cases in which it exists, the final test is face-to-face.

In the course search, and in the enrollment, the courses of the online modality are marked as "FULLY ONLINE", and the courses of the mixed modality are marked as "BLENDED LEARNING"

 

Information Skills

The Information Skills are aimed at developing digital skills in the information field.

Furthermore, it is teach the ability of recovering information, achieving precision and efficiency in the results. Also, to use these information resources on an ethical way, avoiding plagiarism and according to the academic and professional conventions on each field.

The subject is taught in blended learning modality, with some of its sessions online and others face-to-face:

  • In engineering, with 1.5 ECTS, there will be 6 synchronous online sessions, and 2 face-to-face sessions (the last one, for the final test)
  • In the rest of the Bachelors, the course has 3 ECTS, with 11 synchronous online sessions and 3 face-to-face sessions (the last one, for the final test)

Writing and Communication Skills

The methodology of this subject has a theoretical basis, necessary for a correct use of language, but gives priority to the practical application of these communication skills.

It is intended that each student distinguish their own specificities, both spoken and written communication, and be able to apply them to a topic in which they adequately and orderly expose ideas, with a precise coherence and language. The subject also emphasizes in the use of non-verbal communication and the use of diverse resources in public expositions.

The course is taught face-to-face.

Bachelor Thesis

The Bachelor’s Thesis is a subject intended to get the students to complete their studies by elaborating an original project in which they collect the contents and skills acquired during their years of Bachelor’s Studies.
