Cross-curricula Subjects

Fomración Transversal en la UC3M

At UC3M we consider it an added value to develop skills, knowledge and tools in addition to those acquired in undergraduate studies, in order to offer a 360° education, with up-to-date knowledge adapted to the needs of the labour market and, at the same time, connected to the advances and values of society.

These skills are a hallmark of our university, and are integrated into all UC3M syllabuses through the following subjects: Humanities, Professional Interpersonal Skills, Expression Strategies, Digital Skills for the Use of Information, Digital Skills for Data Processing, Digital Skills for Engineering and Final Degree Project. It is necessary to pass these subjects in order to obtain your degree, for which you will have one exam in each academic year.

Given our commitment to the 2030 Agenda, we are incorporating in the cross-cutting degree subjects competences and learning outcomes that refer to human rights, democracy, the promotion of equity and equality, the environment, the fight against climate change and, in general, the values derived from the Sustainable Development Goals, whose ultimate goal is environmental, economic and social sustainability.

Soft Skills

A wide range of 3 ECTS on site workshops are offered with the aim of acquiring the necessary skills in the professional world: initiative and responsibility, negotiation, emotional intelligence, leadership, motivation, personal interaction, conflict resolution, teamwork, creativity and innovation, analysis and decision making, entrepreneurship, etc. These skills are obtained through a mainly practical approach and are reviewed annually.

Effective Language Strategies / Writing and Communication Skills

Its working method includes a theoretical basis, which is essential for the correct use of language, but gives priority to the practical application of these communication skills.

The aim is for each student to distinguish the specificities of both spoken and written communication and to be able to apply them to a topic in which he or she presents ideas in an appropriate and orderly manner, with precise coherence and language. The course also emphasises the use of non-verbal communication, the use of different media in public presentations and attention to inclusive language, in order to reinforce the SDG values, in particular those related to gender equality and the reduction of inequalities (SDG 5 and 10).
