Presentation

UC3M is the first Spanish university to offer a Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics and Business, a cutting edge and competitive degree leading to very attractive professional opportunities for its graduates. The goal of this program is to form professionals with quantitative skills who can transform data into useful information for the decisions of businesses and institutions in sectors such as finance, banking, insurance and business consulting.

To this end, we have created a degree in statistics with a business orientation and an important applied nature that fosters the learning of computer science while placing special importance on mathematical education. Likewise, it emphasizes teamwork, aspects of computation and information processing with the use of the most advanced software.

Thanks to professional internship programs with companies and institutions in the industry, students have the opportunity to carry out internships that will provide them with greater knowledge of the professional world.

Employability and profesional internships

UC3M has agreements with over 3000 companies and institutions in which students can undertake internships and access job openings.

A total of 93.4 % of graduates from this University enter the job market the first year after finishing their studies, according to the 2019 XXIV Estudio de Inserción Profesional (Professional Placement Study).

Mobility

  • Exchange programs

    Exchange programs

The Erasmus programme permits UC3M first degree and post graduate students to spend one or several terms at one of the European universities with which UC3M has special agreements or take up an Erasmus Placement, that is a work placement or internship at an EU company. These exchanges are funded with Erasmus Grants which are provided by the EU and the Spanish Ministry of Education.

The non-european mobility program enables UC3M degree students to study one or several terms in one of the international universities with which the university has special agreements. It also has funding from the Banco Santander and the UC3M.

These places are offered in a public competition and are awarded to students with the best academic record and who have passed the language threshold  (English, French, German etc..) requested by the university of destination.

All these skills and abilities will be developed further throughout the duration of the degree, as part of the competencies acquired.
In addition to the points listed above, on a personal level, students should possess the following qualities:

    • Creativity and imagination
    • Organizational skills and study habits
    • Teamwork and leadership skills
    • Ethical awareness and responsibility

Equally, these aspects are developed and enhanced during the degree study program through the teaching of the specific contents of the subjects and skills.

Application for a place in the degree

  • Graduate profile

    Graduate profile

Graduates in Statistics and Business will receive broad training which covers areas related to both the knowledge and application of the theory of statistics and business management at a basic level. They will also have a solid base in mathematics and computing which will give them thorough training in subjects related to Statistics and specialized training in its application to the area of business.
With this profile, they will be equipped to successfully engage in professional activity in various fields especially in business management or the financial management of businesses and organisations, actuarial science, insurance, banking, risk assessment, stock market analysis, investment portfolio management, operations management, financial analysis, market research, optimal pricing policies, etc.
In addition, their training will also well prepare them to carry out all kinds of activities in the areas of consulting, which is where many of our students have had considerable professional success, despite not having had the broad training that this new degree provides. The combination of business and technical training also prepares graduates for project management in the areas mentioned above.
The emphasis on technical training in Statistics, which has been a tradition in the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid from the start, and the quality of the instruction provided by the University in areas such as Business Administration, means that graduates have all the skills necessary for continuing their training through professional qualification in fields with a strong quantitative element, such as Financial and Actuarial Sciences or undertaking research or teaching in Statistics or common areas of Statistics and Business Administration.
Finally, it is important to note that graduates receive training in communication skills, languages and humanities, which helps to improve their personal communication skills, knowledge transfer and national and international team working skills, hence increasing their value and contribution within their professional career.
