International Mobility and Doctorado Internacional Distinction

Undertaking a period of research abroad as part of your Ph.D. training is a requirement for Doctorado Internacional distinction eligibility, provided that the following additional requirements are met (chapter 5 of the Rules and Regulations of the Doctoral School at UC3M):

Your research visit must be previously authorized by the Academic Committee of your Ph.D. program. After the visit, all certifying documents, reports and research outcomes must be provided:

• Authorization for International Research Visit
• International Research Visit Report

Requirements for Doctorado Internacional distinction

• Your visit must have a minimum duration of three months and be carried out at one or more prestigious institutions of higher education or research centers out of Spain
• Your thesis must be partially written and presented (at least, abstract and conclusions) in one of the languages commonly used for scientific dissemination in the field, different from any of the official languages in Spain (except for visits carried out in Spanish-speaking countries)
• At least two Ph.D. experts in your field working at an institution of higher education or research center out of Spain must contribute individual reports on your thesis
• One of the members of the Thesis Committee must hold a Ph.D. in your field of expertise from an institution of higher education or research center out of Spain. This member cannot be the same doctor that served as supervisor of your visit at the host institution

Additionally, the following documents are to be attached to your request for thesis defense to the Academic Committee:

a. Report and outcomes of research visit  (minimum duration: three months) in a prestigious research center out of Spain

b. Abstract and conclusions of your thesis written in a language other than Spanish (except for visits carried out in Spanish-speaking countries)

c.  Two individual evaluation reports of your thesis written by international Ph.D. experts from an institution of higher education or research center out of Spain

d. Proposal of a member of the Thesis Committee from a higher education institution or research center out of Spain

The Academic Committee will assess this information, and, if approved, forward their proposal to the Dean of Doctoral School with the Authorization of thesis defense and appointment of Thesis Committee
