  • PROGRAM

    Credits

    The total number of ECTS credits is 90 broken down as follows:

    • teaching program (theoretical and practical): 60 ECTS credits
    • Seminars: 8 ECTS Credits
    • Professional practices: 14 ECTS credits; ;
    • Project: 8 Credits ECTS

    Claims relating to the teaching program will be obtained by evaluating the knowledge acquired in each of the modules through the papers, individual or group of continuous assessment and objective tests overall.

    For the title it is necessary to overcome all modules End Project Master and the favorable report of the probationary period (which may be validated for students who during the course work as archivists for a period of equivalent or greater time).

    Teaching program

    Teaching, organized by quarters, will be given by relevant specialists of different subjects involved in the six modules that comprise it.

    1. Fundamentals of Archivist (4.5 ECTS) Coord .: Prof. Dr. José Ramón Cruz Mundet
    subjects:

    • History and archival files.
    • Principles and fundamental concepts.
    • Legal regime of documents and files.

    Introduction to the theoretical foundations of the discipline in three complementary perspectives: historical, conceptual and legal. It is first know its origins and its historical evolution, to the current configuration of the various systems and archival models in different areas, from local to international. special attention to training their doctrinal body, fundamental concepts that constitute the terminological and conceptual framework necessary for the process of specialization in the field is also provided. Finally, the dual-file documents has a specific legal regime set out in regulations of various ranks and scope, whose knowledge is essential to define the space Archivist.


    2. Production and Interpretation of Documents (10 ECTS) Coord .: Prof. Dr. José Ramón Cruz Mundet
    subjects:

    • Types of funds and public and private documents.
    • Business documentation.
    • Paleography and diplomatic.

    The documents are the result of the activities of organizations that develop common functions and other specific character, thus giving rise to different types of documents. His knowledge is necessary, given the instrumental nature with documents for archival work. For companies it deserves special attention, derived from the manifest differences from the government, which do not stop at the typological aspects but also on the basis of the documents associated with strategic processes such as total quality management and environmental management. Finally, the long history of many of the organizations producing documents and therefore detentadoras file requires the attention of important historical collections of old variable whose proper treatment requires the incorporation of certain interpretive techniques for understanding the content , for exploitation and for the establishment of documentary authenticity.


    3. Document Management (11 ECTS)

    The aim of the document management is controlling the life cycle thereof, through a series of principles and aimed at creation, use and disposal techniques. It is the core of archival work and comprises building activities (design and control standard and excellent documents), document flows, and methods of use and disposal: classification and management, description and retrieval of information through a series of international standards, assessment, selection and weeding.


    4. File Management (10.5 ECTS)

    • Prevention, conservation and restoration.
    • Diffusion.

    Files, as public services and logistic units of private organizations, consist of a set of human and material resources that need managing. The acquisition of technical planning, organization, management, communication and decision-making; knowledge of the quantification and analysis techniques are the subject of attention in this module. In addition, the special characteristics of archival infrastructures, as well as the documents themselves, derived from the materiality of media and media registration, involve the incorporation of multidisciplinary expertise for optimal resource management. Also planning services and related social and cultural role of archives activities are included.


    5. Information Technology (11 ECTS)

    Information technology and communications constitute the environment in which they are produced, they used and kept increasing volume of documents, so it is necessary to know the systems and operational. Technologies also provide the support of processes aimed at improving applications. Finally are the basis for setting powerful tools in the service of the techniques related to managing documents and files, by products on the market and through the integration of different tools. This is the triple perspective from which the decisive technological field is addressed.


    6. Theory, History and functioning of organizations (13 ECTS)

    Management of documents in organizations going through a good knowledge of the business, the scope thereof, of its modus operandi, the ways that are structured to achieve its objectives and the legal system to which they are subject. Hence the organizational foundations, the law in general and in particular the Administrative and the evolution of organizations in history, constitute the objectives of this module.


    Seminars (8 credits)
    Coord .: Prof.. Dra. Carmen Díez Carrera

    Specialized seminars, among which the student must take at least 8 ECTS credits for the course, aim to complete the practical training of students in a series of basic techniques of archival technical process, so that the probationary period, preparation for the labor market, or immediate professional performance, can be addressed with a technical mastery and expectations reasonable and appropriate training. Some of the seminars organized in previous editions include search techniques and use of information, Paleography and Diplomatic, Commentary document Workshop organization, methodology for developing good practice manuals for files, new policy developments for management document, Introduction to EAC and EAD, Metadata,

    Project - Master's Thesis (8 ECTS)
    Coord .: Prof. Dr. José Ramón Cruz Mundet

    The student will develop a research project tutored as a culmination of the learning process and maturation of acquired knowledge. Such work will be well in a theoretical essay, either in a case study on a topic of interest in relation to the academic program, which is manifest the mastery of concepts, the authorities, the specific literature and personal reflection.


    Internship (14 ECTS)
    Coord .: Prof. Dr. José Ramón Cruz Mundet

    The Master is complemented by a practical module in the months of May and June in the morning from Monday to Friday, with a value of 14 ECTS. Such practices are carried out in different file services belonging to Public Administrations and companies with which the Master has signed cooperation agreements to that effect. Its realization is mandatory, although they may be validated when they are concurrent with work of the student.

      Graduates from any discipline.
       

      For Application

      The period for submitting applications is open until 31 July 2019. Also, an additional filing is established from August 1 to September 22, 2019, whose admission is subject to the availability of places free.

      Documentation must be submitted:

      • Photocopy of Higher Degree
      • Academic record (set of subjects and grades obtained during the bachelor)
      • Resume with photocopy of the merits alleged
      • Photocopy of identity card, passport or identity card

      Selection

      Selection will be based on the assessment of the documentation and Optional, in a personal interview with the candidates.

    • REGISTRATION

      Matrícula

      El importe de la matrícula es de 4.800 euros. Esta cantidad cubre la enseñanza, los materiales didácticos del Maste, la plataforma tecnológica, además de la utilización de la Biblioteca y el resto de las instalaciones de la Universidad.

      El pago de esta cantidad se podrá fraccionar en tres plazos distribuidos de la siguiente manera:

      • el primer plazo, una vez que se haya notificado por escrito su admisiónal Máster, deberá ingresar la cantidad de 1.000 €, como pago del primer plazo y reserva de plaza. El importe de este plazo no se reintegrará en ningún caso;
      • el segundo plazo, por importe de 1.900 €, tiene como fecha límite de pago el 31 de octubre de 2019;
      • y el tercer plazo, por importe de 1.900 €, tiene como fecha límite de pago el 15 de marzo de 2020.

      El ingreso de estas cantidades habrá de hacerse en las fechas indicadas, entendiendo que, si no se realizara así, perderá la condición de asistente al Master y no tendrá derecho a la devolución de las cantidades ingresadas con anterioridad.

      Sólo se podrá solicitar la devolución de los derechos de matrícula del primer plazo, en el supuesto de imposibilidad de asistencia por causa de enfermedad justificada u otro motivo sobrevenido de equiparable gravedad.

      Título

      El título que se otorga en el Máster en Archivística es expedido por el Rector de la Universidad Carlos III de Madrid como título propio.

    El Máster en Archivística develops active for job placement of its students and graduates, among which is political:

    • Free registration in the Service of Vocational Guidance and Planning (SOPP) under the University Carlos III Foundation, enabling them to have access to job training, paid internships, scholarships and employment contracts in companies and public administrations.
    • Offering direct grants and contracts by the associates of the Master, whose contacts are managed directly aimed at students and graduates who sign up for this purpose in the Secretariat of the Master.
    • Direct online service and public offers, announcements and information of interest.
  • AIDS

    The program has two grants partial exemption from payment of tuition for those students enrolled in the Master in Archivist, who lack financial resources prove sufficient merit, and according call and request deadline.

    The amount of financial assistance shall be a maximum of 50% of the academic tuition fees. In general, the aid will be paid once the teaching load in the first quarter of the Master.

    The call for scholarships, will be available on the Global Classroom platform accessible to students enrolled with suficente advance.


    Requirements

    Support under this call are incompatible with a stable labor activity of more than one year.


    Selection criteria

    For evaluation and development of the Commission proposal and the scale criteria expressed below apply:

    • Academic record (40% - Max 4 points.)
    • Rent (40% - 4 Points Max.):
    • Other Merits (20% - 2 Points Max.):

    In case of equality in the total score by several students of the Master, the amount of aid will be distributed in aliquots between the number of students who have obtained identical overall rating.

    Objectives of the Master

    The Master's mission is to provide students with a specialized high-level training, empowering them to exercise the profession of archivist and records manager (archivist, records manager, RecordsKeeper). It is a training cycle that turns a university degree in a new professional prepared to enter the labor market.

    This mission is achieved through a series of objectives:

    • Acquire scientific-technical Archival, supplemented with other sciences and disciplines that optimize training, such as Information Technology and Communications, law, quantitative methods, (Management) Administration and Sociology knowledge , mainly.
    • Develop comprehensive learning combining theory with practice, since all contents are taught by actual finding of acquired brews. A process that is reinforced with professional practices that are part of the curriculum.
    • Get the skills and specific skills to the sector concerned and other necessary for work and professional success, such as technology, teamwork, empathy and flexibility, responsibility and ethics, decision-making and entrepreneurial spirit.

    Duration and Times

    The program duration is one academic year and required to complete 90 credits ETCS) distributed as follows: 60 credits of theory and practice (1800 hours classes, including classes given more time student work), which will be complemented by a final research paper 8 credits (240 hours) and professional practices of 14 credits (420 hours charging time double counting).

    The program is complemented by additional appropriations in specialization courses and seminars to be held throughout the academic year, of which the student must take at least 8 credits. Teaching, organized by quarters, will be given by relevant specialists of different subjects involved in the eight modules within it.

    It is mandatory attendance at a minimum of 85% of classes, unless good cause and proven appreciated by management.

    The program begins on October 1.

    Insert Job

    Students who have made previous editions of the Master have a high rate of use exceeding 95%.

    Most students get their first job, working scholarship and paid during the academic year, thanks to demand from companies in the sector to our students practice. It is a good way to finance the studies.

    Once graduates hold jobs in business and government, acting for document management and archiving, which adds to the labor market feature adaptation to the training received.

    Jobs

    Carlos III University of Madrid has a service orientation and career planning dependent Carlos III Foundation which students can access the Master in his capacity as students of the University. The Master will cover the subscription costs of those students who enroll in the service.

    Carlos III University of Madrid and Master in Archivistics are deeply committed to the quality of teaching, for it has established a regular assessment system which allows us to estimate that deserves our students, both on teachers, as the contents taught.
