Detection of Cases

1. Procedures to follow for detection and notification of cases of SARS-CoV-2 in UC3M

In line with the strategy designed by the Spanish Health Ministry,  Universidad Carlos III de Madrid has specific procedures set up for early detection, tracking and control of  COVID-19 for the different University Community collectives: faculty and researchers, administrative and service staff, and undergraduate and graduate students.

Compliance is mandatory by the entire University Community so as to ensure early detection of cases of active infection by SARS-CoV-2 and the establishment of the necessary control measures to prevent the spread of new infections.

DETECTION OF CASES AMONG PAS/PDI

IF YOU BEGIN TO HAVE SYMPTOMS OUTSIDE THE UNIVERSITY

  • Stay at home, going out as little as possible, avoid contact with other household members, and if possible, use a room for you alone until receiving instructions from the healthcare services.  
  • Contact your primary healthcare center or healthcare provider if you are an employee belonging to MUFACE as soon as possible.
  • Notify the University about your situation:

> By calling the Servicio Médico del Centro de Salud laboral (University Medical Service of the Occupational Health and Safety Center) during office hours or by sending an email to the following: infocovid19@uc3m.es   with basic information that will allow the Medical Service to proceed with identification and contact: Last name and first name, Department, Institute or Service, office used, and especially a telephone where you can be contacted.

> Informing your Head of Service or the Director of your Department or Institute.

IF YOU BEGIN TO HAVE SYMPTOMS WHILE YOU ARE AT THE UNIVERSITY

  • Contact the Servicio Médico del Centro de Salud laboral (University Medical Service of the Occupational Health and Safety Center) during office hours or send an email to the following address infocovid19@uc3m.es with basic information that will allow the Medical Service to proceed with identification and contact: Last name and first name, Department, Institute or Service, office used, and especially a telephone where you can be contacted.
  • Notify your Service Head or Department/Institute Director.
  • Leave the University.

If your symptoms are mild, go home and contact your primary healthcare physician or your healthcare provider if you belong to MUFACE.

If your symptoms are mild, but you are not able to go home by your own means, you should go the isolation room set up for this purpose.  When you are able, you should go home and from there contact your primary healthcare physician or your healthcare provider if you belong to MUFACE.

If you are experiencing severe symptoms, the University emergency number 9999 should be called immediately to initiate contact protocol with the 112 service.

Isolation spaces have been set up on the campuses for those individuals who have symptoms and are unable to go home by themselves.  They will then be able to wait in this room until someone can come to accompany them.  These rooms are for individual use only, and are equipped with proper ventilation, a waste bin for a used mask (if replaced) and tissues.  The room will be ventilated, cleaned and disinfected after being used.

PROCEDIMIENTO PARA EL USO DE LOS ESPACIOS DE AISLAMIENTO

Para poder acceder a los espacios será necesario, en primer lugar, llamar al teléfono de emergencias de la Universidad 91 624 99 99. Un vigilante de seguridad se desplazará al lugar indicado para facilitar la apertura del mismo de manera que esta persona pueda esperar allí.

Las salas de aislamiento Covid-19 en los campus a los que debe acudir la persona que se encuentre con sintomas son:

  • Campus de Getafe. Edificio Foronda.Despacho 7.0.02.
  • Campus de Leganés. Auditorio. Sala 5.0 C 11, junto a la entrada del aparcamiento.
  • Campus de Colmenarejo. Edificio Miguel de Unamuno.Aula 1.B.16
  • Campus Madrid-Puerta de Toledo.Aula 1.A.06.

WHEN YOU HAVE A CONFIRMED POSITIVE CASE OF COVID-19

You must notify the Servicio Médico del Centro de Salud laboral (University Medical Service of the Occupational Health and Safety Center) about the results of your PCR test by calling during office hours or sending an email to infocovid19@uc3m.es

Likewise you must communicate your test result on the RADAR COVID app once it has been activated by the Madrid Regional Community.

DETECTION OF CASES AMONG STUDENTS

IF YOU BEGIN TO HAVE SYMPTOMS WHILE YOU ARE OUTSIDE THE UNIVERSITY

  • Do not go to the University, leave your home as little as possible, avoid contact with other household members, and if possible, use a room for you alone until receiving instructions from healthcare services
  • Contact your primary healthcare center.
  • Notify your teachers if your doctor prescribes isolation

Preventative isolation prescribed by a physician is considered a justifiable cause for not attending classes, provided that official certification is presented: diagnostic tests, communication of tracers indicating obligation to isolate, recommendations from healthcare center, etc.

IF YOU BEGIN TO HAVE SYMPTOMS WHILE YOU ARE AT THE UNIVERSITY

  • Leave the University. You cannot resume academic activity until your condition has been evaluated by a healthcare professional.
  • Contact your primary healthcare center.

If your symptoms are mild, go home and contact your primary healthcare physician or your healthcare provider.

If your symptoms are mild, but you are not able to your home by your own means, you should go to the isolation room set up for this purpose.  When you are able, you should go home and from there contact your primary healthcare physician.

If you are experiencing severe symptoms or if need help getting to the isolation room, the University emergency number 91 624 9999 should be called immediately, and if necessary, contact protocol with 112 service initiated.

WHEN YOU HAVE A CONFIRMED POSITIVE CASE OF COVID-19

You must notify the University as soon as possible by completing the following form: https://aplicaciones.uc3m.es/formulario/notificaCovid

If you are not able to fill out the form, you should telephone 91 624 60 00 where data will be requested so that you can be properly identified.

Likewise you should communicte your positive test results in the RADAR COVID once it has been activated by the Madrid Regional Community.
