What is IFP?
The main objective of the International Foundation Program (IFP) is to provide international students with the necessary preparation to undertake a degree at the University Carlos III of Madrid. You will acquire an adequate basis of both Spanish language and culture, as well as specific knowledge of the studies you will carry out in the future. The Program comprises 48 ECTS (European Transfer Credit System) and is divided into two knowledge areas: Social Sciences and Humanities/Engineering.

Once admitted, a reservation of 200€ will be requested and will be discounted from the total price at the time of registration.
Acceptance requirements:
- You must have completed studies equivalent to high school studies in Spain.
- Hold a B2 level in Spanish or English.
Required documents:
- European or non European high school diploma or equivalent.
- Transcript of records with the grades of last two years.
- B2 level in English or Spanish certificate or Personal statement of having sufficient language level
- Passport.

International Foundation Program scholarships 2021/2022
Carlos III International School promotes two scholarships for International Foundation Program students with a good academic performance, who may be in difficult financial situations or in special circumstances that could compromise their access to university studies.
Amount
Two scholarships of 6.100 euros each shall be allocated. This amount shall be used to cover part of the tuition fees.
General requirements
- Not be resident in Spain.
Academic requirements
- Have completed high school studies
- Have been officially accepted in the International Foundation Program
- Hold a good GPA in high school
Financial requirements
- Do not exceed anual incomes state in the article 2.3 of the call for candidature.

IFP enrollment: academic year 2020/2021
The International Foundation Program is made up of 48 credits during the academic year. Each semester, the student will register 24 credits divided in the following way:
· 18 credits in Foundation courses and language courses (Spanish or English)
· 6 credits in Bachelor's Degree courses.
Acceptance in Bachelor's Degree studies
Requirements
International Foundation Program students will have the possibility to be accepted in a Bachelor Degree studies after completing the program by fulfilling the following requirements (except Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics, UC3M Open BA and UC3M Open BS and Dual Degrees):
1. Students with Non European high school Diploma: Hold the recognition of the high school studies (in Spanish: Homologación) by the Spanish Ministry of Education or the copy of the application . More information about the recognition of studies in the Spanish Ministry of Education (information only in Spanish).
2. Students with European Union high school Diploma, International Baccalaureate (IB), or from Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein, Island, Andorra and China non residents in Spain: Instead of recognition of studies, submit the credential for university studies in Spain, given by UNED (in spanish, "credencial") through its service UNED assis. More information about UNED assis.
3. Hold a B2 level proficiency in English or Spanish deppending on the Bachelor Degree chosen.
4. Pass at least 42 credits (ECTS) of the International Foundation Program with a GPA* of 5 or more..
Selection Criterias
A commission appointed by the President of the University will evaluate the students applications. Applications will be assessed taking into consideration the following aspects:
1. GPA* obtained during the International Foundation Program (will be taken into account 48 ECTS)
2. GPA* obtained in 2 basic Foundation courses for the Bachelor's Degree chosen:
- For Engineering: Foundations of Algebra, Foundations of Physics, Foundations of Calculus, Foundations of Chemistry, Foundations of Programming.
- For Economics, Business Administration, Finance and Accounting, Statistics and Business, International Studies and Management and Technology: Foundations of Mathematics, Foundations of Statistics, Foundations of Economics, Foundations of Business Administration.
- For Political Science, Law, Employment and Labour Relations, Sociology, Management of Information and Digital Contents, History and Politics and Tourism: Foundationsof Law, Foundations of Politics, Foundations of Sociology, Foundations of Philosophy, History of Spain, Foundations of Mathematics, Foundations of Statistics, Foundations of Economics.
- For Film, TV and Media Studies, Journalism, Humanities and Cultural Studies: History of Spain, Communication, Comunicación, Foundations of Philosophy, Foundations of Mathematics, Foundations of Economics.
- 3. Pass all the credits of the program and pass the Bachelor's Degree courses will be an asset.
Application
In the application it is necessary to indicate 3 studies by priority order. The Bachelor's Degree chosen must be offered by UC3M.
It cannot be applied for: BD. in Sciences, BD. in Philosophy, Politics and Economics, UC3M Open BA, and the Dual Degrees.
Only one application per student may be recorded.
Deadline: From January 20th to February 8th 2021.
Documents to submit:
- Recognition of the high school studies (in Spanish: Homologación) by the Spanish Ministry of Education or the credential for university studies in Spain, given by UNED. If you don't hold this document, you will have the possibility to submit it later.
Applications will be solved between mid-June and mid-July.
* The GPA is calculated based in all subjects, both passed and failed.
