Professor Wilfried Romain Stefan Coenen

Wilfried Coenen is Associate Professor of the Department of Thermal and Fluid Engineering (2020-). From 2015 to 2019 he was a postdoc at the University of California San Diego (USA). Before that, he was a lecturer at UC3M and a researcher at the Universidad de Jaén. He completed his PhD at UC3M, with various short research stays in UK and USA. He owns a Master of Science degree in Applied Physics from TU Eindhoven (the Netherlands) and a Master in Engineering Mathematics from UC3M.

His research focuses mainly on the fluid mechanics in the central nervous system, for example the flow of cerebrospinal fluid in the spinal canal. The final goal is to improve intrathecal drug delivery protocols, and to understand the pathogenesis of certain pathologies such as hydrocephalus and syringomyelia.

W. Coenen has led national and regional research grants, as well as contracts with the private sector. He has numerous scientific publications and contributions at international conferences. He has directed two PhD theses, and has two accredited research sexennia.
