Professor Mª Belén Muñoz Abella

Belén Muñoz Abella is Associate Professor of the Mechanical Engineering Department since 2007, she is a MSc (Polytechnic University of Madrid) and a PhD (Carlos III University of Madrid) in Mechanical Engineering. In 1998, she joined University Carlos III as an assistant professor after having worked for a year at ITT Automotive Spain as a Quality and Production Engineer.

During these more than 20 years of service at the University, she has taught more than 16 different subjects in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the undergraduate and graduate levels. He has taught also different courses in the field of mechanical engineering. She has supervised more than 100 final study theses, has coordinated a SPOC course launched in the 2020/2021 academic year and has been Erasmus coordinator for the University of Aveiro between 2011 and 2015.

Her field of research is related with the identification of damages in mechanical and biomechanical components and with the resolution of inverse problems in Mechanical Engineering. She is co responsible of the SiOMec Research Group (Simulation and Optimization in Mechanical Engineering) since its creation in 2016. She has participated in 9 research projects financed in public calls, in 2 of them being the principal researcher. She is author of more than 60 scientific publications in journals and conferences, both national and international, and she has co-supervised two doctoral theses.

In parallel to the teaching and research activity, she has carried out management tasks practically since she joined the University. Since 1998 she has been elected member of several boards of the University. Between 2011 and 2017 she was Secretary of academic affairs of the Mechanical Engineering Department. For 3 years she was member of the organizing committee for the subject Technical Drawing for the University Access Exams.
