The Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) is commemorating International Women's Day on the 8th of March 2024 under the slogan promoted by UN Women “Investing in Women, Accelerating Progress”, and is launching a programme of activities, readings, concerts, plays, conferences and workshops, which will take place throughout the month of March.

UC3M expresses its firm commitment to the eradication of gender discrimination; guaranteeing and promoting the rights of all women and girls; and real and effective equality between women and men.

In this context, the University's Vice-Rector's Office for Institutional Relations, Culture and Equality has organised a programme of activities that aims to recognise the historical and current contribution of women, highlight the need to apply gender perspectives in all areas, make diverse women visible and raise awareness of existing inequalities.

The events taking place will include the round table discussion “On the 8th of March: Women in resistance”, which will feature the voices and testimonies of women in resistance from different parts of the world (Palestine, Ukraine, Guatemala, Ecuador, Afghanistan, Mexico, Colombia and Cañada Real); the play “Beatriz Galindo in Stockholm”, which tells the story of the first Spanish female diplomat's trip to Sweden in 1937; a guided tour through Madrid on women who changed history; dramatised readings by the students of the University's theatre workshop; a day of debate on the social perception of equality between women and men; and the presentation of the book “Una storia dei diritti delle donne”, among others.

On the 6th of March at 7pm, there will be a concert by Blanca Paloma, Spain's representative at the Eurovision Song Contest 2023, at the UC3M Auditorium on the Leganés campus. Admission will be free until full capacity is reached.

On the 8th of March at 10:30 am, an institutional statement will be made on the Leganés and Getafe campuses. At 1 pm, there will be a guided tour of the “Las Literatas'” exhibition and readings for equality in the Exhibition Hall of the Library Building on the Colmenarejo campus.

UC3M will also join events in collaboration with other entities, such as the “Women's Stories” exhibition; the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Democratic Women's Movement; the presentation of the “8th of March Awards”; the theatre reading of “Mariana Pineda” by Federico García Lorca; the conversational workshop “The women in my family and I”; the round table “Today and always: all leaders”; the “Emigration of brave women” exhibition; and the reading of feminist poems on International Poetry Day. The University will also be present at the events and demonstrations organised by the Getafe and Leganés City Councils on Friday the 8th of March.
