UC3M participates in Education Week 2024

2/28/24

The Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) is participating in Education Week 2024 to provide information about its bachelor’s degree and postgraduate degree course selection for the 2024/25 academic year. This year, UC3M presents the first Neuroscience degree in Spain and its new Faculty of Health Sciences. The planned activities include meetings with teaching staff from different disciplines and female researchers at the “Aula de Igualdad” (“Equality Classroom”), RoboticAULA workshops and other outreach activities as part of the Madrid es Ciencia Fair.

UC3M will present its bachelor's degree course selection at AULA, the International Student and Educational Offer Fair, which will be held in Hall 3 of IFEMA. 52 degree programmes will be offered in the 2024/25 academic year: 39 undergraduate programmes and 13 double degrees. 72% of this selection will be in English and bilingual, and it is estimated that more than 20% will be international students. For the first time, the Bachelor's Degree in Neuroscience will be presented, the first in this discipline to be taught at a Spanish university, as well as UC3M's new Faculty of Health Sciences.

This year there will be meetings with UC3M teaching staff from different areas of knowledge: Telecommunications, Bioengineering, Cultural Studies, Humanities, Digital Content, Continuum Mechanics and Mechanics.

The stand will also display the MAD Formula Team student association's single-seater racing car, with which they are competing in the Formula Student university competition, and the prototype racing motorbike designed by the MOTO-MAQLAB-UC3M university team, with which they are competing in the University World Motorcycling Championships.

On the other hand, UC3M will present its postgraduate degree course selection at the International Postgraduate and Continuing Education Fair, which will be held in Hall 1 of IFEMA from the 7th to the 9th of March. The selection consists of 74 official master's degrees, 18 double master's degree programmes, 45 continuing education master's degrees and specialist and expert diplomas, and 22 PhD programmes.

Between the 6th and the 8th of March, UC3M is organising the RoboticAULA workshop to provide a first look at the world of robotics. This year, there will be 6 micro-robotics workshops which will be taught in groups of 20 students in 30-minute sessions during the morning. In these sessions, students will learn to control the motors of a small mobile robot using the Arduino control board with basic movement commands. The workshop is aimed at students in their fourth year of secondary school studies and A level students.

On Friday the 8th, the Aula de Igualdad (Equality Classroom) will take place, where the workshop “Learning to code using language, mathematics and imagination” will be held. This activity aims to promote STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) vocations in girls and young women.

At the Community of Madrid in AULA stand, on the 7th of March, UC3M will hold the workshop “Neuroscience, artificial intelligence and healthy ageing”, which will be given by teaching staff from the Department of Bioengineering.

UC3M will have a stand at the 13th Madrid es Ciencia Fair on the 7th of March in Hall 5 of IFEMA. It will offer a series of scientific outreach activities to learn about the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in R&D&I and its impact on society, from areas such as aeronautics, biometrics, systems engineering, journalism and robotics, among others.

During the morning, between 10am and 2:30pm, the following workshops will be held “How do aircraft contrails affect climate change?”, given by researchers from the Aerospace Engineering Department's E-CONTRAIL project; and “Discover the skills of the TIAGo assistive robot”, which will be given by teaching staff from the Systems Engineering and Automation Department.

In the afternoon, from 3:30pm to 8pm, activities will be held on “AI in smartphones for the biometric recognition of hand veins”, given by a researcher from the Department of Electronic Technology; and “True Detective: are you smarter than AI?”, which will be led by a researcher from the Department of Communication.

On the same day at 11:30am in the Science Agora, Sara Correyero, UC3M alumni and co-founder of the startup Ienai Space, will give a lecture entitled “Are we facing a new space race?” on the proliferation of new satellite launches.

Throughout the Madrid es Ciencia Fair, from the 7th to the 9th of March from 10am to 8pm and at a separate stand, researchers from UC3M's Autonomous Mobility and Perception Lab (AMPL) will be presenting their ERIS test vehicle, which they are using to develop computer vision technologies applied to race environments and smart cities.
