UC3M and ILO collaborate for the promotion of labor rights

2/24/17

Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) have signed an agreement to carry out activities of collaboration on international labor rights and social protection.

La UC3M y la OIT colaboran para la promoción de los derechos laborales

The memorandum of understanding was endorsed at the Madrid – Puerta de Toledo campus by the UC3M Rector, Juan Romo, and the head of the International Labour Office for Spain, Joaquín Nieto, in representation of the ILO. The purpose of this agreement is to provide a framework for cooperation to develop activities for studying, disseminating and promoting internationally recognized social rights.

There is a joint interest in fostering the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, in particular, promoting scientific and academic debate in conversations about the Future of Work initiative. The initiative is run by the ILO on the occasion  of its 100th anniversary, which will be celebrated in 2019. There is also an express interest in promoting subjects related to decent work, the impact of new technologies on labor relations, international governance and the creation of more powerful and equitable social protection systems.

The signing of this collaborative agreement paves the way for knowledge transfer from the university to the international legal-social spectrum. Conversely, it makes it possible for students and faculty to delve into the international dimension of labor regulations and social protection. All of this influences the understanding and improvement of the national legal situation itself.

The ILO is the United Nations agency specialized in the world of labor. It unites  governments, employers and workers of the member states with the goal of undertaking joint actions to promote social justice and internationally recognized human and social rights. In addition, the ILO is renowned for the promotion of decent and productive labor opportunities for men and women in conditions of equality, security and human dignity.
