Documents required

In order to be considered, application forms must be accompanied by the following documents:

  • A photocopy of ID card or passport of the applicant
  • CV of the applicant in the format available online
  • A scanned copy AND official English translation of a certificate of the Diploma held (Bachelor or equivalent).

Students in their last year of undergraduate studies who expect to obtain their Diploma in time for registration in the MEDEG can be pre-admitted on a conditional base. They should indicate, in the application, the expected date of graduation, and enclose an official certificate in English issued by their university, stating the expected date of graduation. Pre-admission will be made definite upon presentation of an official certificate of graduation, which has to be sent to the MEDEG office NO LATER THAN July 30th, 2015.
  • A scanned copy AND an official English translation of their transcript or similar detailed official record of the applicant's academic achievement (an official report listing exams passed, grades, graduation mark, honours).
  • A scanned copy of the certificate of language knowledge, if applicable.

All students from non-English speaking countries have to provide a Certificate of English Language. In addition to this, students from non-Spanish speaking countries who want to spend their first year in Madrid have to provide a Certificate of Spanish Language.

Students unable to provide a language certificate by the relevant application deadline but who have taken or expect to take a language test (TOEFL, Cambridge ESOL or equivalent) should specify in the Application Form the precise date of their test/exam and include in the application a scanned copy of the official registration to the test/exam. The results of the test/exam, in the form of an official Certificate (even temporary) issued by the examining institution, must be timely communicated by email to the MEDEG administrative office, and in any case BEFORE January 31st, 2015.
  • A motivation statement in which applicants will explain their personal, academic and professional interests and objectives (a dedicated space is included in the Application Form)
  • Any other document that may be relevant for the assessment of their education achievement and skill-set (e.g. certificates of additional degree obtained, training courses received, participation in research projects and other professional experiences, GMAT Test and GRE Test scores, etc.)
  • Two reference letters from academic referees, whose name, academic position and full contact details will also be indicated in the application form. Letters from non-academic referees will not be considered. Reference letters must be redacted using the Reference Form available online. Reference letters redacted using other formats will not be considered.

Reference Form

Applications will not be considered unless all requisite documents and letters of reference have been uploaded. Applications that fail to comply with all requirements will not be considered.
In the selection process, the committee will take into account the following criteria and relative weights in order to score and rank applicants:

  •     (1) Bachelor Degree and study record – 30%
  •     (2) quality of the home university (assessed on the base of national, international and/or internal rankings in the area of Economics; if no ranking is available, the selection committee will research the applicant’s origin department and devise its own ranking) – 15%
  •     (3) language skills – 20% (for students who are required to provide a certificate of language proficiency, scores will be given ONLY if they are able to include the certificate by the MEDEG application deadline; students taking language tests/exams after the deadline will receive a provisional score)
  •     (4) references – 10%
  •     (5) motivation – 10%
  •     (6) other studies in the field, particularly the attendance of additional training courses, and other academic quality tests (GRE, GMAT), if properly certified – 10%
  •     (7) other professional and research experience consistent with the master’s objectives – 5%.

Scoring for each criterion will be from 0 to 5 (0-insufficient, 1-poor, 2-sufficient, 3-good, 4-excellent, 5-outstanding).

Applicants who receive a score lower than 3-good in the first criterion (Bachelor Degree and study score) will be automatically rejected and will not receive any score for other criteria.

The rest of applicants will be scored and ranked to generate two lists:

  •     Admitted students
  •     Students in the Reserve list

Admitted, reserve and rejected students will be notified by April-early May 2015 by email. Scores will be detailed in the notification letter to allow transparency of the selection process.

Admitted students will have to confirm acceptance within 15 days from notification.

Rejected and reserve students have the right to object to the Committee’s decision and ask for a revision of their application. For that purpose they will have to appeal to the Selection Committee, explain their objections to the scores received and highlight the merits (academic, professional, other) that in their opinion qualify their application for a revision. The Selection Committee will notify its decision to either confirm or revise the appealing student’s scores and rank within 15 days from the appeal’s submission.

Admitted students will be required, upon acceptance, to demonstrate the authenticity and legitimacy of the provided documentation by sending by ordinary mail official hard copies of the documents attached to their application:

  •     original Bachelor’s degree or official certificate issued by the home University,
  •     transcript of academic achievement,
  •     certificate of language proficiency,
  •     any other additional documentation originally enclosed,

in the original language, with the ink stamp and signature of a notary public or an authorized university official.

Hard copies of the official English translations of all original documents not redacted in English must also be enclosed.

The admission of any applicant failing to comply with this requirement will be revoked and the first applicant in the reserve list will be admitted.

Personal data relating to applicants are collected and used in accordance with Directive 95/46/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 24 October 1995 on "the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data”.
