    The robotics industry is currently experiencing a boom, in which the traditional robotics industry has evolved to allow robots to be applied to a whole host of new areas, from assistance for people with disabilities to space exploration. The new robotics industry, which still must be considered in research and development phase, is expected to lead in the medium and long-term to new products, and even to new industrial and service sectors.
    Robotics is a multidisciplinary field and requires professional teamwork with varied educational and training backgrounds. The Master in Robotics and Automation is geared towards students with Bachelor's Degrees in Computer Science, Electrics, Electronics, Mechanics, Communications, Biotechnology, etc. who wish to supplement the general education they have received with a specialty in robotics and automation.

    The Master in Robotics and Automation offers a great deal of practical content. Not only are more than a third of the credits directly associated with practical sessions, but in most subjects students are encouraged to work individually and as part of a team. To allow this, the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid's Department of Systems Engineering and Automation, which is internationally recognized in the robotics field, has well-equipped laboratories and robots developed at the University, which students can use to experiment with the latest advances in robotics.

    The Master in Robotics and Automation aims to teach students the skills necessary to take on R & D projects related to robot and robotic systems design.
    The teaching focus is on practical purposes, which is supported by the importance given to practical lessons in the Master.
    In addition to the Master's Thesis, which involves students developing a real system, most subjects require students to participate actively and carry out tasks.

    The Master in Robotics and Automation is made up of two types of subject: subjects spent studying robotics-related techniques, and subjects focused on studying various applications and types of robots in detail, among these subjects are:

    • Assistive robots
    • Personal robots
    • Humanoid robots
    • Space robots
    • Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)/ drones
    • Construction robots
    • Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)
    • Industrial Robots
    • Mobile robots

    After completing the Master, students can gain access, among other courses, to:

    This Master's Degree consists in the first academic year divided into two term (60ECTS) and in a second academic year of one term (30 ECTS)

    Requirements

    Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Science.

     

    Admission criteria

    Admission will be decided by the Master Academic Committee. Candidate selection will be done on the basis of the following criteria:

    Suitability of Candidates for the Admission Profile  
    Interest and availability of candidates to take the master  
    Candidate’s academic transcript 50-90%
    Research and professional experience 10-50%

    *The first two may be exclusionary when not fulfilled, whereas the second two are used to select potential candidates.

     

    Language requirements

    You can check the language requirements of generic language required to study a master at UC3M, depending on is in Spanish, English or bilingual.

    Foreign students

    Once admitted to the Master, foreign students with university degree issued by a higher education institution belonging to an educational system outside the EEES, must present, for enrollment, the diploma attesting equivalent training that allows access to postgraduate studies, legalized by diplomatic procedures, or “The Hague Convention Apostille”. More information about Legalization of Documents.

    If needed, documents must be accompanied by an official sworn translation into Spanish.
