    This Master’s endeavors to form professionals with advanced technical and scientific training to enable them to contribute to research and innovation and development projects, in addition to educating researchers to form part of competitive research teams within the different fields of application encompassed in the Master’s program.

    Specifically, the goal of the Master’s in Multimedia and Communications is to provide its students with a solid education in the areas of communication, data processing, radio frequency and multimedia content management, leading them to pursue their professional careers in this area of ICT as well as acquiring the necessary foundation for admission to the Doctoral Program in Multimedia and Communications.

    New program structure starting with the entering class of 2013/14

    The Program consists in one academic year with 60 ECTS, divided into two term:

    • First term: 30 ECTS in five courses, choose from a total of 7 courses offered.
    • Second term: 18 ECTS in three courses, choose from a total of 6 courses offered. 12 ECTS from Master Thesis.

    ☛ You may choose up to 12 credits outside the program, among those offered in other research Master at UC3M.

    ☛ Elective subjects with fewer than 5 students may not be taught, in which case the students would have to choose other ones in substitution.

    Requirements

    A Degree in Telecommunication Engineering or a similar bachelor’s degree. In addition, upon approval by the Master’s Administrative Board, holders of other degrees comprising similar training and instruction (such as Industrial or Computer Engineering or undergraduate Degrees in Physical Science and Mathematics) may be admitted.

    The student is assumed to have the necessary English level to follow the Master. Additionally, if all students in a subject are Spanish speakers, by agreement of all parts, the subject could be taught in Spanish.

     

     

    Admission criteria

    Admission will be decided by the Master Academic Committee. Candidate selection will be done on the basis of the following criteria:

    Ability of the candidate to successfully undertake the Master’s program studies 20%
    Motivation of candidate, commitment, dedication to program and corresponding research interests 10%

    For evaluation of criterion 1, the applicant’s academic transcript will be taken into account: courses taken and marks obtained.

    For evaluation of criterion 2, previous education and training of the applicant will be taken into account together with his/her professional experience according to his/her submitted CV.

    For evaluation of criterion 3, the candidate’s letter of motivation will be taken into consideration.

    Additionally, for evaluation of criteria 2 and 3, letters of recommendation from professors may be taken into consideration, as well as a personal interview with the aspiring candidate requested by the Master’s Administrative Board with the aim of evaluating the candidate more thoroughly.

    Language requirements

    You can check the language requirements of generic language required to study a master at UC3M, depending on is in Spanish, English or bilingual.

    Foreign students

    Once admitted to the Master, foreign students with university degree issued by a higher education institution belonging to an educational system outside the EEES, must present, for enrollment, the diploma attesting equivalent training that allows access to postgraduate studies, legalized by diplomatic procedures, or “The Hague Convention Apostille”. More information about Legalization of Documents.

    If needed, documents must be accompanied by an official sworn translation into Spanish.

    For the academic year 2017-18 a call for 2 aids has been made for students who have applied for admission or are admitted to the master's program, with the following endowment:

    • The monthly endowment of scholarships will be an amount of €909 gross. Also, the aid will include amounts to cover tuition fees in the first full-time enrollment.

      MASTER IN MULTIMEDIA AND COMMUNICATIONS

       

      ☛ The application process for academic year 2017/2018 is now open

       

      The UC3M offers you the possibility of jointly studying the Master's Degree in Telecommunications Engineering, along with the Master's Degree in Multimedia and Communications. The former allows you to acquire the training to practice as a Telecommunications Engineer. This study option means you will obtain a high level of specialization and research training that will put you in prime position regarding employment and / or access to Ph.D. studies.

      Admission and enrollment in the Double Master's Degree allow for the exemption of validated ECTS, according to the curriculum plan (see Program). Completing the credits from both curricula along with having 30 ECTS recognized will allow you to obtain two officially recognized Master's Degrees in a little more than a year and a half.

      Therefore, students can choose the subject route that best suits their training needs or specific interests within the framework of this dual qualification. They can achieve a much higher level of expertise than if they only study the Master's Degree in Telecommunications Engineering, without the need to forego a degree that will enable them to practice as a Telecommunications Engineer.

       

      VERSIONS

      Two versions of the Master in Telecommunications Engineering are offered: a bilingual version taught on the Madrid-Puerta De Toledo Campus and a Spanish version taught on the Leganés Campus.

      Students may select whichever one of the two versions they wish to follow during the admissions process. This choice only affects the first course.

      The Master's Degree in Multimedia and Communications is taught exclusively in English on the Leganés Campus.

      Master in Telecommunications Engineering

      The Master's Degree in Telecommunications Engineering is a professional master's degree to replace the Telecommunications Engineering undergraduate degree and enables you to practice as a Telecommunications Engineer, under the provisions of Order CIN / 355/2009 of 9th February.

      The Spanish Association of Engineers requires professionals, from companies in the telecommunications field (major manufacturers of telecommunications equipment or telephone service providers) and from other companies, institutions or organizations that need qualified personnel to design and maintain their own telecommunications systems.

      The overall aim of the Master's Degree in Telecommunications Engineering is to train professionals who are competent to practice as Telecommunications Engineers. The Master's Degree is geared towards advanced training and enhancing employability

      Master in Multimedia and Communications

      The Master's Degree in Multimedia and Communications is a research Master's Degree which explores data and signal processing technologies, multimedia processing and advanced digital communications. The subjects offered in both Master's Degrees enable students to achieve state-of-the-art training in the following areas:

      • Signal and data processing: Cutting-edge projects are covered such as ("Machine Learning") or high volume data processing ("Big Data"), all of which are applied in signal and data processing scenarios (text classification, market segmentation, time series prediction, recommendation systems, pattern recognition, biomedical signals, dimensionality reduction, clustering, feature selection, etc.)
      • Multimedia Processing: Most of the applications in the Information Technology and Communications spheres require some form of multimedia processing: speech recognition, dialog systems, biometrics, indexing and ranking of audio and video, computer vision or automatic content management (filtering, recovery), among many others.
      • Advanced mobile communication: In this course students will review in depth many of the technologies that they have been unable to fully cover in the Master's Degree in Telecommunications Engineering. Thus, students will acquire state-of-the-art training in this area that will contribute decisively to better professional practice, covering aspects such as high spectral efficiency modulation, adaptive load, channel estimation, synchronization strategies, 4G, LTE , MIMO, etc.
      • Antennas and radio frequency (RF) subsystems, microwaves and millimeter waves. Technologies are reviewed and outlined for the development of modern radio system transmitter and receiver modules at microwave, millimeter and THz frequencies. These include: broadband antennas, antenna arrays, active antennas, linear and non-linear amplifiers, oscillators, mixers and passive subsystems. In addition, numerical techniques for the electromagnetic analysis of the above subsystems are also presented.

    • PROGRAM

      The Double Master's Degree Curriculum is structured around two academic years in which you will take 78 ECTS from the Master's Degree in Telecommunications Engineering and 42 ECTS from the Master's Degree in Multimedia and Communications. The 120 total credits from the dual curriculum is broken down as follows:

      • In the first year, students take subjects for the Master's Degree in Telecommunications Engineering (30 ECTS in each semester).Each semester you will take five core subjects of 6 ECTS each.
      • During the second year of teaching, you will take the specialty subjects in Multimedia and Communications, 1 final Telecommunications Engineering subject, and 2 Master's Theses.

      You will have 30 validated ECTS credits, and on completion you receive two Official Master's Degree qualifications.

      You must choose 5 subjects (30 ECTS) among all offered (first and second semester) in the Master in Multimedia and Communications.

      Entry Requirements

      The following candidates may be admitted to the Master's Degree in Telecommunications Engineering from the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid:

      •  Graduates with Bachelor's Degrees in: Engineering, Telecommunications Technology, Audiovisual Systems Engineering, Communications Engineering and Telematics Engineering.
      •  Three-year courses (Ingenieros Técnicos): Telecommunications engineering graduates with any specialism.
      •  Four-year or five-year (depending if taken before or after the changes implemented by the Bologna Process) undergraduate degree courses: Telecommunications Engineering graduates
      •  Students holding any Bachelor's Degree, despite the fact there may be outstanding previous subjects deemed necessary.

       

      Admission criteria

      Student selection will be based on the applicant's CV. Specifically we will consider:

      • The applicant's academic record.
      • The applicant's professional experience in the Telecommunications Engineering field.
      • Any letters of support and academic or professional references vouching for the applicant's admission to the Master.
      • Certificates as evidence of English language ability. (It is compulsory to provide this information)

      In the event that the course is oversubscribed due to high demand, personal interviews with candidates may be conducted.

      Enrollment

      Enrollment in the Master's Degree will occur when the application stage has been passed and after completion of the admission process

      Enrollment completely registers the student in the Master's Degree.

      A minimum enrollment of 25 students will have to be reached for each elective subject to be taught.
