Research Service

 

Research at Carlos III University of Madrid (UC3M) has always been one of the basic pillars of the University's activities, both to improve teaching and to generate new knowledge and new lines of research. With this focus, the Knowledge Transfer Office (OTRI) was created as a "Centralised technical-administrative service, without a distinct character from that of the University, to manage research acticity and administer the funds generated by the University, in executing the policy on the subject defined by the competent government bodies", as stated in the UC3M statutes.

As a part of the OTRI, the mission of the Research Service (SI) at UC3M is to support researches in the launching, management, carrying out and justificaction of their research. In line with this focus, it provides support to the research units (groups, institutes, chairs and laboratories) and manages the University's Research Programme. It also carries out tasks related to perspective, evaluation and accreditation, as well as those of dissemination of calls for research projects and guidance in negotiating research contracts.

General Performance of the Research Service

The services offered by the Research Service are grouped in the following general fields of performance:

  • Information and dissemination for calls for R+D
  • Support and advising in preparing  research project proposals
  • Suport and advising in contrating firms (under article 83 of the Fundamental Law of Universities - LOU).
  • Institutional information on R+D
  • Management of the UC3M Research Programme
  • Coordination of research units

The SI includes other duties. Among them are:

  • Management and promotion of research structures
  • Promotion and supprot of research perspective and evaluation
  • Promotion of dissemination and knowledge
  • Support maintenance for researches and the University in general, in attracting funds via research projects and article 83 contracts

The previous actions have the aim of increasing management efficacy, strengthening support to researches in formulating proposals as well as handling bureaucratic tasks, making researches aware of and informing them of opportunities to attract funds, strengthening and supporting the research structures and the groups of excellence, and achieving greater dissemination of UC3M Research.

In addition, as a complement, the SI mantains periodic contact with the Scientific and Technological Park, in an effort to consolidate the chain for the transfer of UC3M research results to society.
