On July 25, 2007 was signed a Collaboration Agreement between the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and Banco Santander with the aim of promoting research excellence by attracting top researchers from the international academic and research community through endowment of ten Chairs of Excellence.
The Agreement, initially established for four years from 2007 to 2010, is renewable thereafter for two-year periods.
As of September 29, 2008, the application period for the Researchers of Excellence program for the 2009/2010 academic year is open to applicants.
