Research interests

Economic History of Europe and Latin America in the XIX y XX centuries.International trade and economic growth. Political economy of trade-barriers.

Current research projects

Nuevas Interpretaciones sobre la integración económica de Las periferias europeas y latinoamericanas entre 1850-1950
Principal Investigator: Antonio Tena Junguito.
Funded by the Ministry of Education. 2008-2011.

The main objective of this project is to elaborate new indicators and advance new interpretations of the process of trade and financial integration of poor independent economies of Europe and Latin America between 1850 and 1950. On one hand, this objective is related to the recent debate about globalization, growth and convergence in historical perspective—a debate which, however, focused almost exclusively on the North Atlantic economy and neglected both the European peripheries and most of Latin America
