Curriculum

María José Álvarez is a Professor of Management at the Department of Business Administration at CarlosIIIUniversity. She holds a Ph. D. in Business Administration and a Licentiate degree in business and economics from University of Seville (Spain). She teaches operations management to undergrads and doctoral students.

María José's research interests center on five main streams: i) Total Quality Environmental Management; ii) Advanced Manufacturing Technologies (AMTs); iii) Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM), including Reverse Logistics and Food and Drink’s Security and Traceability; iv), Performance Measurement Systems; and v) Innovativeness and New Technologies in Service Operations Management, considering both Health and Hospitality Industries. She has published in leading journals, such as the Journal of Operations Management, International Journal of Production and Operations Management, International Journal of Services Technology and Managementand the International Journal of Production Research, among others.

In addition to her teaching and research, María José provides service to several academic journals and professional associations. She sits on the editorial boards of some journals in management including theManagement Research. She has served as ad hoc reviewer of some leading management journals as OMEGA; International Journal of Production Economics, International Journal of Operations and Production Management, and R&D Management among others.

María José is a former Associate Dean of the BusinessSchool at Carlos III University de Madrid (1995-2004)
