Welcome!

The Department of Business Administration at Carlos III, consistently ranked first in Business Administration Studies in Spain, is committed to high quality teaching and research.

Faculty members’ research has been published in journals like Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Administrative Science Quarterly, Econometrica, Journal of Finance, Management Science, Organization Science, Review of Financial Studies, Strategic Management Journal or The Accounting Review, among others. We provide faculty members and PhD students with a wide range of facilities to improve their research, including access to the common databases used in the field.

Teaching includes programmes at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including an MBA programme accredited by AMBA and our very demanding PhD programme on Business Administration and Quantitative Methods.

The department is a member of the academic council of the European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management (EIASM).

  • Prize Finance Forum AEFIN 2011

11/22/2011 The paper "Do sovereign CDS and Bond Markets Share the same information to price credit risk? An empirical application to the European Monetary Union case" written by professor Nacho Peña (UC3M), joint with Oscar Arce (CNMV) and Sergio Mayordomo (CNMV) has been awarded at the 2011 Edition of the Finance Forum AEFIN within these two cathegories,

  • Visiting Professor this week - Gerald P. Dwyer

11/14/2011: During this week, Gerald P. Dwyer is visiting our department. Gerald P. Dwyer is Director of the Center for Financial Innovation and Stability at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta and an adjunct professor at the University of Carlos III in Madrid. At the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, he is in charge of the finance group in the Research Department.  Dr. Dwyer's research has been published in leading economics and finance journals. His research also has appeared in the /Review/s published by the Federal Reserve banks of Atlanta and St. Louis as well as in books and conference volumes. He is on the editorial boards of the /Journal of Financial Stability/ and /Economic Inquiry./ He is president of the Association for Private Enterprise Education and a past president of the Society for Nonlinear Dynamics and Econometrics. His research interests are in banking and financial markets.

  • Business Policy and Strategy Prize - 2011 Academy of Management Congress

11/08/2011: Assistant Professor Charlotte Gaston has won the Best Article at the Business Policy and Strategy section at the 2011 Academy of Management Congress, the best congress within its topic. The article entitled "Let me handle this, I've done this before: Experience and self-involvement in superstitious learning with the Sumantra Ghoshal Research and Practice Award" is also co-authored with Jose Lejarraga andTomás Lejarraga.

  • QS World University Ranking

01/07/11: University Carlos III has been included between the 200 best universities around the world in the Accounting and Finance Area, according to the QS World University Ranking. The QS (Quacquarelli Simons) Ranking is published yearly by the QS firm, which has a contrasted experience of 20 years in this kind of international rankings based on a weighted analysis of qualitative and quantitative indicators.

  • Cátedra UAM-Accenture

10/1/11: Our colleague Ester Martínez has been awarded with the prize "Cátedra de innovación de la UAM-Accenture" on its 2010 edition.

  • R. Nelson Prize

10/1/11: Alessandra Luzzi has won the R. Nelson Prize for her article "The Market for Patents in Europe," Research Policy, 36 (2007), 1163-1183 coauthored with Alfonso Gambardella.

The Richard R. Nelson Prize is awarded every two years to the best article by younger scholars in, alternatively, Industrial and Corporate Change and Research Policy, the two favorite journals of Professor Nelson.
