The ambitious and innovative catalogue of degrees offered by Universidad Carlos III of Madrid could not be without two degrees such as Law, which has held an essential place in this University’s array of studies ever since it was founded, and Political Science, established more recently, but also full of advantages and rich perspectives for those who choose it. These two degrees, as the presentations of the Associate Deans of Law and Political Science on the University webpage explain, individually guarantee our students a wide and promising range of possibilities when they join the professional world.
Nonetheless, the sensitivity with which we hope to have grasped the needs of an increasingly demanding and complex society and universe of work, as well as the expectations that have been detected in a significant sector of our student body, has convinced us to also propose this daring, modern and efficient solution. The combination of both degrees in a double degree is aimed at those of our students who wish to increase their academic education and thus, widen their professional horizon, acquiring at the same time the knowledge, abilities and capacities that the study of both disciplines provides.
This solution, with the antecedent of Combined Studies in Law and Political Science, takes on a new dimension, since it does not simply mean completing a legal education with a second cycle of studies in Political Science but rather fully covering all the fundamental subjects of each of the two degrees.
Obviously, this requires a greater credit load, 347 credits divided over five and a half years, but it has the enormous advantage of providing students with a solid, all-purpose preparation and situating them in a privileged position to successful pursue future Master’s studies or to begin a professional career in either of the two areas. Furthermore, the program we have prepared avoids scheduling conflicts and permits students to take better advantage of their time dedicated to studies.
For all these reasons, we are fully confident in the great popularity that this Dual Degree will have among our future students and in the personal satisfaction and the professional success they will enjoy once it has been completed.
Carmen Barranco Avilés. Associate Dean of the Dual Degree in Law-Political Science
