En todos los procesos de evaluación de la actividad investigadora se acepta como principal fuente de información de la calidad de las revistas la base de datos JOURNAL CITATION REPORTS (JCR). Es una base de datos multidisciplinar producida por el ISI (Institute for Scientific Information) con gran número de aplicaciones bibliométricas y cienciométricas: presenta datos estadísticos cuantificables que ofrecen un camino objetivo y sistemático para determinar la importancia relativa de las revistas por áreas de conocimiento. Permite además conocer la revistas científicas de mayor impacto basándose en el análisis de las citaciones de los artículos publicados en las mismas revistas.

Consta de 2 series que abarcan desde 1997:

  • Science Edition: cubre cerca de 5.700 revistas científicas internacionales punteras, de la base de datos del ISI.
  • Social Science Edition: cubre cerca de 1.700 revistas internacionales punteras en el campo de las Ciencias Sociales, Economía y Derecho de la base de datos del ISI.

SJR indicador. SCImago Journal and Country Rank

The SCImago Journal & Country Rank is a portal that includes the journals and country scientific indicators developed from the information contained in the Scopus® database (Elsevier B.V.). These indicators can be used to assess and analyze scientific domains. This platform takes its name from the SCImago Journal Rank (SJR) indicator, developed by SCImago from the widely known algorithm Google PageRank™. This indicator shows the visibility of the journals contained in the Scopus® database from 1996.

SNIP

The Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) of Leiden University developed for Elsevier Scopus an indicator called the Source Normalized Impact per Paper (SNIP, see Moed, 2009). This indicator can be seen as an important alternative to the impact factor. Currently, the SNIP is being produced by CWTS exclusively for Scopus.

Eigenfactor

The scholarly literature forms a vast network of academic papers connected to one another by citations in bibliographies and footnotes. The structure of this network reflects millions of decisions by individual scholars about which papers are important and relevant to their own work. Therefore within the structure of this network is a wealth of information about the relative influence of individual journals, and also about the patterns of relations among academic disciplines. Our aim at eigenfactor.org is develop ways of extracting this information.

ERA (The Excellence in Research for Australia Initiative)

The Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) initiative assesses research quality within Australia's higher education institutions using a combination of indicators and expert review by committees comprising experienced, internationally-recognised experts. The ERA initiative will use a range of indicators and other proxies to support the evaluation of research excellence. The ARC has released the Ranking Journal List and the Ranking Conference List.

CORE

The Computing Research and Education Association of Australasia, CORE, is an association of university departments of computer science in Australia and New Zealand. Prior to 2004 it was known as the Computer Science Association, CSA. CORE has released the Journal Ranking, the Conference Ranking and the ACSW Conferences.

CiteSeer

CiteSeer is a scientific literature digital library and search engine that focuses primarily on the literature in computer and information science. CiteSeer was the first digital library and search engine to provide automated citation indexing and citation linking using the method of autonomous citation indexing. CiteSeer was developed in 1997 at the NEC Research Institute, Princeton, New Jersey. It is now hosted at the Pennsylvania State University's College of Information Sciences and Technology. CiteSeer attempts to provide resources such as algorithms, data, metadata, services, techniques, and software that can be used to promote other digital libraries. CiteSeer indexes PostScript and PDF research articles on the Web.

MR Citations Database (MathsciNet - Mathematical Reviews)

Dentro de esta base de datos especializada en matemáticas, el fichero MR Citations Database permite obtener datos como "citas a la revista", "items publicados" y el MCQ (mathematical citation quotient) valor próximo al factor de impacto pero calculado entre las revistas de la propia base de datos.
